OMG...I'm going to pay $4000 a year for a 2004 TSX.

I'm 22 yo, southern cal., 3 tickets. That will run a little over $300 a month... Is this supposed to be expensive? I have one ticket that will be erased in november, will they automatically drop the rates?

I had a roommate that ran into the same problem, only worse, when he was 22...had to get a much cheaper car because of it. Shop around, but insurance on a car like a TSX is gonna be really pricey for someone your age with 3 tix.

Sorry to hear your pain..
how sad....all this good money for insurance...and yet we are still obssessed with more cylinders, 300+ HP, faster, faster, faster...in a land that imposes a speed limit of 55 MPH...

I'm 24 w/ 2 speeding tickets (both under 15m.p.h. over the speed limit...so 2 points) Right now I pay about 2400 a year, but my last ticket goes off in February....3 yrs and 3 months after the date of conviction. I already got a quote from progressive for what my insurance would be after the tickets are gone and it drops my premium to 1600 a year.

I was in the same boat until I was 25.

I had 8 speeding tickets on my record and was paying several grand on insurance for my Integra.

But as soon as I turned 25, the rates went way down. I pay about $70 a month now with State Farm.

I'm 24 and pay $1200 a yr. I've had 6 speeding tickets in a 5 yr span, but all were driving school or supervision except one. Not too shabby IMO.

Yes, it's pretty much normal. You also have to account the high-risks pertaining to urban areas: Many car accidents (fender-benders), criminality, etc.

Back in the late 90's, I was paying 4800$ CAD for a 4 year old Accord EX-R AT. My record was pretty bad, needless to say.

With a better record now, I'm down at 1400$ full for the TSX.

A good record, 25+ and being married is what insurers look into.

Sounds about right. These days insurance companies will use just about anything to raise your rates.

If you have 3+ tickets... you should pay a lot for insurance! Not trying to dime you out, but if going fast is that important, buy a damn radar detector for much less than your insurance premiums. Face it, being male, young and single with a couple of tickets is the worst combination and you keep the insurance companies in business. Those of us who pay FAR LESS for insurance thank you. :'(

Sure does. They gave me a 25% drop when they learned I got married (I made sure they knew...)

I guess it's because they consider that being married helps guys become more responsible on the road. It's most probably based on stats as well.

Yep. Our collective insurance just went from $5200 to $3400 after we were married.

That's f**king not fair.....the stats are baloney...I think what the stats would indicate is that, in general, married people drive DIFFERENT cars than they would if they were single...and with different cars, driving habits change.

But if marriage status changes & everything else NO change & that cause a premium change...that's bs !

I disagree. I think the stats probably indicate that married people have more reasons to drive safely... namely, they are more likely to have kids. Don't know if they can ask you that one though.

The logic I've heard is that married people are less likely to take risks when driving than single people.

Edit: jcg wins.

Getting married only has an affect on your insurance premium below a certain age (say, below 25 or 27). After that, the difference is based pretty much on age. At least at my insurance company....

PS - when someone else's happiness and well-being is tantamount to your own, you do tend to drive more cautiously

I'm in Alberta, Canada...I turned 25 last year, and when my insurance on my EL renewed, my monthly rates dropped by just over half. I think I'm paying $120 or something a month (about $1440/year), whereas I was paying $230 before ($2760/year) and $290 when I first got my EL in 2001.

However, I have no traffic violations to my name....so that helps a great deal.

I don't think I'm going to like what's going to happen to my insurance when/if I trade up to a TSX....

I assume that if people in their early 20's are to buy something like a TSX, then money probably should not be a factor... if it is, then may be something that is still nice but less pricey would be more appropriate?

Maybe I am just older and more boring, but at that age, I was saving up my money for my mortgage downpayment. I drove a modest but nice car (Nissan Altima) for many years. Now I am enjoying my nice home and TSX :-)

And yes, always check the insurance rate first before purchasing a vehicle!

I am 23 with 2 tickets and I am paying $640 per year. My parents insurence agent is still covering me under my parents policy until I turn 25 then I will switch it. Most people I know are still on their parents policies.

I am paying 1670 with AAA in michigan. I think that is a little more and thinking of shopping with other insurance companies. I was paying around 1100$ for my 95 honda accord ex before but that was totalled in accident (other party at fault), do u think will that have any chance of increasing in premium apart from changing to TSX

If you are young and you haven't had a long history of insurance, you just bought a new entry-luxury car (read high theft and vandalism) plus you have citations on your record, don't expect to get a cheap insurance bill. Living in an area (city) with high young-driver accidents does you no help either.

I am 24 right now, have had 6 years of continuous insurance and no citations...i still pay $1500 a year for my TSX.

Back when I was 20 and I bought my then new Accord EX 4DR...I paid $3800 a year for insurance. And that's w/o any points on my license.

I'm looking forward to my 25th at the end of this year too...

Damn, you're getting Screwed. I've had about 6 or so tickets since I started driving and I pay la bit over 1500/year, a lot of that is because I live in an expensive insurance area.

23/m in Chicago and I use State Farm

-On parents policy although I don't live at home to get multiline discoutns for other cars and the house (I am still in the area though)
-Car is still registered to my parents address (avoid chicago vehicle stickers and for insurance purposes)
-No tickets or accidents
-Good student discount locked in until 25
-Did a "safe driver" thing from state farm, took about an hour of my time and saves $100/6 mo

~$1100/yr for full coverage with $500 deductible and uninsured/underinsured driver coverage

Quick Reply: OMG...I'm going to pay $4000 a year for a 2004 TSX.
