Old school TSXers: would you do a 2G TSX in 2009?
Caveat: Feel free to interpret "old school" as you see fit. For me, I consider anyone who bought their TSX in an 18-month window from late-03 to early-05 to fit the bill. However, if you think you will be replacing your TSX around the time the 2nd generation 2009 models hit showrooms late in 08, you're the kind of person I'm thinking of. Anyone else's insight is valued too of course, I just wanted to explain where I'm coming from first. Anyway...
I've had my TSX since the summer of 2004. By late 2008 it will be over four years old, and just out of warranty. Thus far the TSX has been a great car. I haven't regretted my purchase decision one iota since I brought it home. The only time I came close to getting rid of it was when I bought my GTO in the summer of 2006, but that feeling abated rather quickly as winter snuck up and I realized how impractical the GTO was (I was living in New England at the time).
All that being said, my TSX just rolled past 35,000 miles, so I'm starting to creep up on the end of what warranties I haven't already voided by the mods I put in it when it was new. Naturally, this has me beginning to look at options for a possible replacement. One of these possible replacements is a 2G TSX in late-2008. I am a bit unique in the sense that I use a wheelchair and drive with hand controls, so the dimensions and ergonomics of a vehicle are more important to me than to most other buyers. The TSX fits me like a glove in this regard. I've test-driven many other vehicles and never found a better match. And frankly, I'm not particularly interested in searching further.
To that end, I am going to seriously consider trading my 2004 TSX for a 2009 model when they arrive. Anyone else? I know a few people here are already on their second TSX. Thoughts?

If the next-gen TSX comes with about 250hp, doesn't gain too much weight, and has the same feel and solid driving dynamics as the 2004 and the 2006 that I have owned, then absolutely. One of the reasons I love the TSX is that everything feels very substantial, much more so than one would expect from a car of this price.
If they can keep that up, bump the horsepower, and maintain the driving dynamics, my money might as well already be theirs.

I bought an '04 in May 2005 and like you, I really like this car a lot. However, it's probably going to be more like 2012 or so for me, depending on how many miles I put on this car and how it holds up. This time around, I'm aiming to wait for the mid-cycle refresh to purchase again.

If it looks like the concept and has rwd/awd and a 250+ hp motor maybe. If not I think I'll be looking at the 135i bimmer my bro is a certified bimmer mechanic and works at a dealership and can get me a good deal not to mention he can do all installations with me not voiding my warranty. Also it will come with a twin turbo 300hp i6. I just hope the new TSX doesn't disappoint.
I might also keep my current TSX and use it as a beater.

The TSX is destined to be a beater for me. Its a 4 cyl entry level luxury car that will be handsome and classic for quite awhile while maintaining great gas mileage. I've gotten 140-150k out of my hondas/acuras, and that's part of the reason I got this car.
If anything, I'm more interested in the 2013 TSX. I hear that they'll make the flux capacitor standard equipment. Here's hoping.

Good thread.
Since it seems the TSX was designed as an "entry level" luxury car for a young professional, I think my mentality will be a bit different by then. Although it's only 2 years from now, I have a feeling I'll be looking for something less harsh.
Yeah, call me a wuss, but I can imagine the road noise and high revving taking its toll on me by then.
On the other hand, I will be entering the 4th year of my car loan in 2009. I'd most likely keep her as my "sports car" since it will have nearly 300 hp at the wheels from Kpro and the full hytech setup.
At 2.9% APR, I'm not in a hurry to pay it off....

If the 2G TSX looks good and has the same feel as 2004 TSX, I will buy it. In fact I just bought Civic Ex sedan to tie me over till TSX comes out, after that my kid will get the Civic, and I hopefully the TSX.

When I bought my 2006 TSX, I have already planned to trade it in for the 2nd gen TSX after its mid cycle refresh. I will always buy a car (especially a Honda/Acura) at its mid cycle refresh.
1st year - still working out the bugs
2nd year - mid cycle refresh coming up
3rd year - mid cycle refresh so perfect time to buy
4th year - won't be much upgrade so will buy last year model for cheaper
5th year - next gen coming out so no point in buying

Absolutely! The longer I keep my TSX, the more I like it!
I love my car, period. However, I would love to have more horsepower, and SH-AWD too for my snowy climate here. So if the 2009 TSX would have these features, and yet keep its wonderful balance and style, I definitely would seriously consider it again, provided that the new TL would not be so good that I might have to go for it instead!!! :-)

i will seriously consider it if it:
has rwd/awd
has no significant weight penalties
maintains the same dimensions and does not increase the belt line
having said that, i don't plan on giving the tsx up (driving it to the grown). if anything, it'll be a second car, not a replacement.

Damn, Rmpage --- haven't seen you around in awhile! I'll be closely watching for the new TSX as well. If they offer the SH-AWD w/ 6spd, I'm sold. However, I'll probably wait until the 2nd or 3rd year, as I'm sure they'll have to work out a few "kinks". Unlike most (it seems) on this board, however, I absolutely loathe the new design on the Sports4 concept. I really hate the way it looks... and if the TSX stays a FWD'er, I'm bolting for the nearest Bimmer dealership to pick up a new 135i.

Early adopter here, April 03. The one thing I've learned from the TSX purchase was to stay away from 1st year models and possible wait for the MMC. So a 2011 TSX will definently be on my radar.
But my 04 still puts a smile on my face everytime I see it so I'm in no rush to get rid of her.

My dad always says he wishes he kept his first car (it was a '65 Mustang) and even though I know the TSX will never be a classic like the Mustang has become, I plan to keep my TSX until I can't drive anymore. However, when the time comes for something a little newer, I have ZERO interest in looking at any other car besides the 2nd generation TSX.

2006 DGP Sold 10/24/2012
My 2004 lease ends in October, and right now I'm thinking of buying it then, even if I only keep it a few months to resell. I've been looking forward to the next generation TSX, but if it looks anything like the new Accord or the MDX I'll pass and buy a lower-mileage used 2008 or perhaps a Civic Si sedan.
Whatever they do to the next TSX, I really hope that Honda keeps the weight as close to the current model's as possible.

I've been debating with my co-workers about this for a couple of weeks now. I've been holding back on mods because of it. If the 09 does indeed come with awd and maintains its looks and driving dynamics I'd switch and take the loss( I still have 4 yrs left on my financing).

Can't wait to drive
Old school TSX owner here. Got my car in November 2003. I still enjoy my car, and it still feels nice after all these years, and quite competitive to the new offerings from other car makers. It's got a bit of rattle now, and the chassis has become a bit "softer" from the hard cornering I do. But besides that, I still love it. I have to see the 2G first to decide if I want to upgrade . One thing I really want is an upgrade is the navi (I still have a database from 2003), and minor stuff like bluetooth, xm, etc, that did not come with the 2004 TSX. More power would be nice, but the styling of the TSX is what grabbed me in the first place. I've been thinking about replacing my car, but I haven't found car that truly "fits" me like the TSX. If it drives and performs better than the 6MT TSX, and looks better inside and out then I'll be a good candidate for and upgrade.

I'm just not old school. ![Sad](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif)
My '06 has many good years left in it for me, but don't count me out for a MMR 2G TSX, maybe I'll jump then like I did my with my '06.

I absolutely love my 2005, and after I get my Hytech stuff and suspension I should be good for at least 3 more years, so maybe a 2011 TSX, if I don't step up to a more comfortable TL what with being so old by then

Burning Brakes
I own an 04 TSX and I purchased mine in Sept. of 04, If I was to upgrade to a 2nd Gen TSX I would not buy a first year car again. Their usually are some bugs and kinks that they have to work out of the first model year. I would hold out atleast till the 2010 TSX showed up to upgrade. I am planning on keeping this car for awhile and I highly doubt that I would upgrade to a 2nd gen TSX.

if the TSX comes in an AVTEC 4-cyl, or w/turbo and SHAWD, then yes i will. if it comes in a small V6, then forget it. i didn't get a TL and i won't get a V6 TSX.

I'm old school--bought mine in October 2004. Mine was a 39 month lease, so I'll be moving on in about 5-6 months.
Nice car, but I have no desire to get another one. I'll likely never own another 4 cylinder car. Just not enough "oomph" after driving many other cars with much stronger powerplants.

pretty funny it's old school even if the TSX came out in 2003.
nope, no new TSX for me. sticking to this one until it's time to trade it in or sell it to carmax and get myself my first non-Honda/Acura car.

Seriously, here's hoping they finally put a compliant suspension in the 2009! My one-hour return drive from the beach this weekend was capped by the little one crying her eyes out in the back all the way home as she bounced up and down in her car seat thanks to the brilliant stock "sport suspension".

Hum, difficult to say…I purchased my 04 TSX MT in late-April 03. While I love the car, I’m not inclined towards buying another 4-cylinder sedan. I may add a few more mods. to my current TSX and keep it as a “fun/daily driver,” but my next ride will most likely have 6 or 8 cylinders (w/ navigation) and will not be fwd. So, if the next-gen TSX fits the bill, I might get one during the 2010-2012 model years. Otherwise, I’ll move on to something different. I definitely won’t do the first model year though, since I’ve experienced a few reliability issues with my current 04.

I think it really comes down to what you need in a car. If all you care about is decent performance, good interior room and solid and stability, I would re-consider about the 2nd Gen TSX. (if you are satisified with what Acura offer you so far). However, if you are looking for more class and even a more solid chassis and car, I would definitely look into the euro side of the tuner world. The new C-class seems pretty nice, but I don't really like it personally. If you are still looking for sedans, hold on for a while and just wait. I am sure more will come out later.

As for me, I bought my '05 TSX in May '05. I won't be done paying on it till 2010, and then after that we'll see how badly I want another car payment. It might be refreshing to save money for awhile. I love my TSX in so many ways, but I still do miss having a convertible (my 1st car when I was 16 was a red LeBaron convertible)....

I am an "OLD SCHOOL" TSXer . I bought my 04 NBP TSX in October of 2003.I am currently looking into ordering the 2008 BMW 135i. I 've been talking to the BMW dealers to find out what the $$ is for Spring 2008 release. So far , no news on the price. TSX needs more power ,SH-AWD drive, and better paint job. Anything short of this would be a tough sell for Acura.

Don't count out the 4 cylinder just yet. If they add forced induction to it (e.g. RDX), it will make all the difference in the world.
The RDX is too heavy for the motor -- turbo or not, and I4 can only generate so much torque below 1500 RPM -- but it would be perfect in the TSX.

Maybe for you and me but the car is selling just fine as it is. Sticking with an I4 with 220+HP, FWD and cheap paint may not bring back you or me but the car would continue to sell 3 to 4K units a month.

also we don't really know what the next gen TSX will look like. yes it could be the sports4, but is that truly 100% confirmed? if it looks anything like the upcoming 8th gen US Accord sedan, I'm going to pass.
the upcoming US Accord sedan looks boring and too American looking for my tastes, but much better looking than the current Accord sedan.
