Odd hole?!?!?!?

Odd hole?!?!?!?
i been going throught the car and notice this odd hole. it not really a hole. its located close to the ignition. on the aluminum trim. do you guys know what it does?

I believe that's the temp gauge for the automatic climate control. There's also one up near the sunglasses holder.
