Not an ashtray????
ok someone might have already stated this, but i didnt want to read through 5 pages of "i use it for change" so...
its pretty obvious to me, that acura intended it to be used for electronic gadgets, so they lined it with felt, this way your not putting your shiny new blackberry phone into a plastic compartment where it will inevitably get scuffed to hell sliding around as you drive... and theres a power outlet there to let u charge said electronic device...
someone commented it says "not an ashtray" like coffee cups say "contents is hot" .. good point; obvious information to most people, but they're covering their asses legally, in the case that some moron decides to ash their cig in there and burns the car down..
my 2 cents!

I appreciate you being honest about your apathy.
I don't see the power outlet being next to the "not an ashtray" area as being "obvious" that it's for electronics. Why? because it's the same design they've been using when the "not an ashtray" was an ashtray, and the "power outlet" was a cigarette lighter.
No need to read 5 pages of posts to see only three posts above you someone stated your comment on not wanting to get things scratched, and the last half of your comment paraphrases exactly the comment you half quoted from the first page.
yawn.
Sorry to sound like a dick, but your post opening basically says, "I'm unwilling to read this thread to see if my post is relevant." And I think that's kinda shitty.

actually i think the felt lining and power outlet together make it obvious, not the outlet alone. besides, there already is a change compartment in the center console, why would there be two compartments for change.
*shrug* put whatever u want into it, its ur car..
and brady, ya sure, find urself the best lawyer on earth, maybe he'll convince a judge you were stupid enough to think ur supposed to ash into a door, instead of something that looks like an ashtray.

-- thats kind of the point, its not a cigarette lighter anymore..

The previous gen USA Accord had an "not an ashtray" also. Except it was black and rubberish lined and smaller, and on the left... even more useless. I used it for change but it was harder to get the change out, not much room for fingers. So it was better looking but useless. So why did they have a fake ashtray in a USA only model Accord then?
The point...? None really.
I was quite shocked that the "not an ashtray" was bright red felt in my TSX. It is just kinda silly.
The big question is what will happen to the "not an ashtray" in the Second Gen TSX??? What new advances will there be with the "not an ashtray"?

Ha. Yeah... Acura: Advance. Maybe a big electromechanical hand will come out and slap you for smoking yourself to an early grave?

See what you miss when you don't read back diligently!
I still use it for my lip balm in winter (which I forget in the morning before I leave the apartment), so it gets used at the first red light. I just added one of those teeny, hotel complimentary hand lotion bottles, which ... well, same as the lip balm.
Haven't seen any pics of it open in the 2009 Euro Accord/TSX, but I expect to see a "Pas fumer!" label. Seeing as they changed almost nada on the dash from the Euro Accord....
BTW, Civic2TSX ... congrats on your new ride!

but i recall lots of cars also had ashtrays in the door, on the armrest, so i was sarcastically pointing out that my little spot in the armrest doesn't say "not an ashtray" so if i use it as one, and the car burns, i guess i can sue acura....
the poster that replied to me didn't catch the sarcasm obviously.

I just realized that I have some small Star Fleet identification stickers I bought from Rick Sternbach (senior production illustrator for the last few series; ebay ID intrep74656). I might be able to adapt the smaller ones....
