No-nav photo request
No-nav photo request
I'm looking for a photo of the center-dash area with the stereo, etc from a non-nav 07/08 TSX. I can't find a link to one of these shots. I'm going to buy a TSX in the next few days and just need to decide between nav/no-nav. My plan is to get an after-market nav since the stock nav/stereo haven't impressed me.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
There's definitely some pictures around here if you search...
but don't forget that with Nav you get all the voice activation stuff too, definitely comes in handy
but if you're not impressed with that then just go with aftermarket nav, most people fit them in in the lower pocket area and they look alright, I would personally just get annoyed with looking all the way down by the shifter to look at the screen rather than glancing over to the centre of the dash...

Well yea, I've looked already. Otherwise I wouldn't be asking, hah.
I'm expecting to fit a nav in the same location as it's found in the nav version. I'm favouring the AVIC-Z2 right now. Link:

It supports voice recognition and has long list of features the base nav doesn't. Sure you can't set the passenger's temperature with it but that'd probably just piss them off anyways

If that's what you want to do, the non-nav is not an option. The whole central part of the dash from the clock display down to the storage bin is one unit. If you want an aftermarket in-dash nav you'll have to buy nav equipped car and rip out the stock unit. There just isn't anywhere to mount an in-dash unit in the non-nav dash.

For what its worth, I highly recommend the NAV that you can get with the TSX. I have a 2004 version and from what I understand the 2006 and newer NAV's that come in the TSX are even better. The NAV in the TSX was rated #2 from JD Powers and Associates based on customer satisfaction of NAV units that come in cars.
Having the NAV built in has a lot of advantages as well. It is always there when you need it. With a portable NAV you typically want to put it away somewhere if you park outside so someone doesn't see and and break in your car to steal it.
When the NAV gives the turn by turn directions it automatically lowers the radio so you can hear them. When you issue voice commands it automatically lowers the A/C and mutes the radio.
It has a built in gas mileage computer, calculator, calendar etc... the controls for the radio, CD player etc.. are on the touch screen.
It has a nice large (at least 7" I think) screen easy to read screen.
I have been using it for nearly 4 years and it has been great.
Certainly you can get a cheaper aftermarket NAV and they are better than what was available when I bought my TSX back in April 2003 but I think they have a number of disadvantages compared to the a integrated NAV like the one in the TSX.

Hey guys. Thanks for that high-res shot. That's exactly what I was looking for. But also thanks for pointing out the whole single-unit bit. When I started this thread, I didn't realize that! I've seen some of the mods now people are doing with the nav down below and that's not so much fun. So my new plan is to get built-in nav and then upgrade that as needed.
This started after I spent a little time playing with the built-in nav and simply hated it. The first thing that caught my attention is that it doesn't have the US and Canada. I don't think I can get both on one DVD either. I live in Seattle now for work but I grew up in Vancouver, BC. I travel up every couple weeks so it's a needless annoyance to have texas but not Whistler on my map.
It also doesn't seem to have any good ipod/zune integration. I could be wrong but if I want to sort by albums, etc on the screen itself, I don't think I can do that?
But my biggest concern now is in replacing the unit. In a couple years, there will be no contest, significantly better navs will exist. I'll want to upgrade. So the big question is, if I get a nav, can I replace it with something like the AVIC-Z2?
Thanks for the help guys! It's been extremely valuable.
