New-Car Break-in?

OK... so I've never had the pleasure of owning a brand new car but will very soon

I was just reading a couple posts and people were taking about new-car break-in. Can anyone care to explain do's & don'ts as well as performance issues to be aware of? I typically drive my cars pretty hard so if I shouldn't until a couple thousand miles in, I'd like to know now before I were to ruin a brand new car.

Thanks guys!

Just to avoid any major wrongdoings, keep it under 4K rpms and vary the rpms for the first 600 miles.

The rest of the info can be found here]

2 saying out there. 1) some say u can drive slow or fast. as long as u dont vary the RPM too much. i.e. driev 80 mph. but dont accelerate and brake and accelerate and make RPM needle dance too much. cause car is still new like a cold muscle can be hurt like a pulled muscle

2) another saying is dont drive too fast. but vary the rpm.. i.e. do the opposite like what was typed above

go figure...i chose the 1st method. worked for me.. but apparently 2nd method work for some others...whatever car u owned before. go talk to the mechanic...

This is the procedure I followed. Clutch Performer posted that a while back and it will answer a lot of your questions.

I'd also add dump the factory at 1000 miles.

I thought the first oil (which i'm assuming you mean) has special properties for break in and changing it too early would be bad

Yes, indeed! But we've been over this issue so many times now, it's not funny anymore.

Just a quick search will lead you to much heated debate over factory oil.

I know man sauce, but it says "oil guy" below his username...that must make him an expert

It all comes down to whom you trust as an expert: This "oil guy", who might well be knowledgable about oil in general, or Honda, who builds their cars up and claims to have their own special specced oil for break-in.

You can choose where you stand, but we've been over this debate so often.
