Sigh. I saw 2 other Meteor Silver TSX's coming out of the same parking lot today. Even let one of them pull out in front of me, so there were two of us back to back. I was thinking, "Get away from me, you make me look common!"

Saw a silver one as well - it's just too bland looking. I can see where the critics got the idea that the TSX styling as bland, as opposed to subtle and understated.

Saw 2 NBPs as well and they really got me thinking. Turned my head and made me smile both times =) Color fits Acura quite well, and complements its upscale sleek image.

But MSM sure looks nice on cloudy days when there aren't 3 of them around... hmm... argh I really should buy a house instead...

If you do decide to get a house i would suggest painting the outside NBP with an ebony interior.

My car was appraised back in early December and I got my car January 12th. I also put 2400 miles extra on it. The dealer didnt discount me nothing. The trade was immaculately cleaned the night before I let it go. IF they want your business, they should just honor the initial trade in and eat the cost. It would just sit on their lot anyway. Have you tried CARMAX for a trade quote to see if you can just sell your car outright and wait it out?

Actually, it turns out he was wrong on the KBB updating their prices Jan 1 and it won't change till Feb 1. I checked and the prices have been the same in December. The problem is instead of 19300 that we had agreed on in December for the trade-in via email, based on another dealership's appraisal of 19000, he said that all he could give me for the trade-in was 18,500, citing the poor market for TSX's in Tucson. Conveniently their internet was down and he was not able to bring up our past emails discussing the numbers on the trade-in. I put down a deposit down via credit card so he could get the car in, figuring I would talk to him about the emails discussing pricing agreements back in December. Although to his credit, he did say, "I will agree to those numbers if you agree to purchase the car in the month of December."

I don't know what to do now, I have until Wednesday to decide?

do you have other options? how much could you sell your car for privately? i think he's just trying to squeeze $500 more out of you.

do you save money on taxes with the trade-in? ask him to throw something in.....

poleish said he got the ipod accessory thrown in, all for 28,300 plus ttl.

yeah, you'll save the 7.6%, so your trade-in value is actually about $19906 (for a trade-in of $18,500). But if you can get the $19K, it's actually worth about $20,444.

I called him up and told him I wasn't happy about the pricing on the trade-in after he'd promised me 19.3k in December. He said it was out of his hands at this point, and that was the decision of the trade manager. He also says that he took a trade-in on another 04 TSX the same day and it was the same deal, guy wanted 19k for it and trade manager could only offer 18.5k. I suggested that he consider throwing in wheel locks and floor mats and the trunk tray to compensate, but I don't know. That's still quite short of the 19,300 I drove all the way down to Tucson expecting him to honor based on our discussions.

Under what conditions can I ask for a refund of the deposit? If he refuses, what do I do?

if the deposit was placed with an trade price written....i think your deposit should be refundable. since the dealer changed the terms of the deal. you put a deposit down with the trade price know right?

something with these calculations is giving me a brain fart.

18,500 * .076 = 1406

19,000 * .076 = 1444

That's a difference of $538?

ask for the trunk tray, all season mats, and wheel locks. that's about $200. get the cargo net also!

it semi compensates for the difference. and less hassle. or ask for free oil changes or something. i dont know.

I know what gsrblack is referring to cause I've done the math before. He's referring to the price I'd have to sell my car private party for me to break even with trading it in to the dealer and getting the tax break. If the dealer will only offer me 18.5k on the trade-in, then that's (28,500-185000) * .076 = 760 tax. Or, alternatively, 28,500*1.076-19906 = 760 for the private party. I figure I could ask 21k easily for the car but there's just too much of a hassle involved, especially with only 2 days before the 06 hits the dealer.

I've never been a fan of trunk nets. If I have small amounts of groceries or delicate items like eggs, I'll just set them in the rear footwells.

i'm just giving you low priced accessories to get him to throw in. ebay it if you dont like it.

i understood the price you'd have to sell private party to break even. i'm saying arguing for the extra $500, might not be worth the hassle and headache you get. you are getting a rare combination....so not much leverage. he probably knows you want the car, and if you don't he could probably turn it over quickly. if you wanted to play craps.....throw the dice....tell him you don't want it, get your deposit back...then let it sit on his lot for a week.

Ahh, I never thought of selling stuff on Ebay.

As for the pricing, we'd agreed on 10500 OTD. That brought the trade-in to:
~19350
-18500
=850 + 7.6% tax

Which is more like 11500 OTD. That's what's giving me the headache right now. Mats and wheel locks can't be worth more than 250, so that's still 600 to make up the difference. The dealer documentation fee of 299 is printed onto the purchase order and it doesn't look like there's room to negotiate on that? Tint, I want to get the Huper Optik stuff up in Scottsdale and the Clear bra from RockBlocker in Phoenix, so those aren't really options for me either. And yeah, both he and I know I'm getting a pretty good deal on what is otherwise hard to find combination, so I don't know how much leverage I have.

Update:

I gave them a final offer of:

06 TSX Navi $28,500.00
Trade $18,877.05

Subtotal $9,622.95
7.6% Sales Tax $731.34
Waste Tire Tax $5.00
Registration Fee $517.65
Dealer Documentary Fee $299.00
Plate Credit -$175.94
TTL $645.71

Total OTD $11,000.00

And asked that they throw in all season floormats, trunk tray, and wheel locks.

They countered with 11k OTD with trunk tray and wheel locks, (no all season floormats). So I was like, alright, that's fine. Then they gave me the actual numbers, and that's what's got me puzzled:

$28964.69-TSX
$19341.74-Trade
$9622.95-Subtotal
$731.34-Tax
$517.65-Reg, Title Transfer
$299.00-Doc
$5.00-Waste Tire Tax
$11175.94-Total Out The Door

They could have just agreed to my numbers. Any ideas on why they adjusted both the selling and buying prices higher in creating the 11k OTD numbers? I'm definitely confused after he gave me a hard time about the 18.5k on the trade in and his trade-in manager not willing to give me more than that.

I had come down on the original 19341 trade in value because that was offered back in December, before he had seen the car, and he had mentioned needing about 400 to cover the book change for 2005->2006 when we were discussing the possibility of getting a 6mt/navi that wouldn't come in until January. Now, this book change didn't happen after all according to kbb.com, but I can still see how a person looking at a car during January 2006 would think a 2004 sounded older than a person looking at the same car during December 2005. In any case, that's alright with me since I've had the car since April 2003 =)

So next Saturday is the pickup day. Too busy this weekend. Anything I should be aware of during the pickup process? I only have one set of keys with me, left the other set and valet keys with my parents. Are they going to fine me for that? I'd figured they were going to issue new keys anyway after 2 years of wear and tear. They never asked me while inspecting the car, but I just wanted to be prepared for that possibility. And what if I put like +1000 miles betwen now and when I turn the car in? I have a conference that I'm driving out to, and I'd rather do it in this car than the new one...

today i was driving home from work. i was at an intersection next to a black tsx. i thought about how this morning on the way to work, i saw 3 other carbon grey tsx's and man, did that black one look NICE.

i love the cg, but i've had my car for just over a year now, and today was the first time i even thought about what it'd be like if i got a different color (black was my second choice). i don't regret my choice, but if someone wanted a black tsx, i sure would give my thumbs up to that.
