Navi Screen + Winter

Tried to do a search, sorry if this has been discussed before.

How is the Navi screen in the cold? I live in Minnesota and my display on my current CD player gets pretty weird in the winter time when it gets nice and cold. Just wondering if the Navi was susceptible to this?

Also, how is the Navi screen with glare in the sunlight?

Thanks,
TZ

when there is a glare i usually close the sunroof shade. and as far as cold weather, nothing has changed for mine but its never freezing in my car so i don't see how it would change.

Yeah, the cold is only problem when my car has been sitting outside all day when I'm at work.

When I lived in Sacramento, that was never a problem .

I had posted the same question a few times but got only one response. The person said that the cold is not bad for electronics. The heat is bad. But my question, like yours, is what happens to the general functionality of the touch screen and the lcd screen itself when it is 10'f outside?

It seems that most of the posting on this site are coming from warm climate zones. And those that are in the colder areas don't seem to have any answers. Hopefully someone will respond with a more definitive answer for us.

Good luck and no hard feelings if your local pop star, Prince, moved to my city of Toronto!

Well this will be my first winter with the TSX I'll be sure to post any problems that I encounter, but I do not antcipate any as the TSX is not the first with the Navi and I haven't really heard of any other cars with Navi having problems.

There are two ways to use the Navi, one is the touchscreen and the other is by a little knob below and center of the Navi screen. I prefer the knob so as not to leave finger prints on the screen, but I will admit the touchscreen is much faster. (So if the touchscreen was not working there is always the knob).

First winter with the TSX, we'll see if there are any problems. This morning I noticed that my heated seats took a little longer to heat up than I would really like, but you can't have it all.

When its extremely cold, the liquid, in the LCD (liquid crystal display) screen may look a little wavy and may not respond properly to your touch screen commands, give it a few mins to heat up and it should work no problem

That was a veru useful response. Something that I never knew and that no person has brought up. Thanks for your input.

You may want to ask this question in the A-TL or A-CL sites since those guys have had their navis for more than one winter. I suspect the screen's response will be slower until the car warms up.

I've not had that problem in the two 30-deg says we've had here since I got the TSX. I also used to have an 03 CL-S with navigation and in both the CL-S and the TSX, the only issue I've noticed is the increased pixel response time of the screen. This means there's more of a "ghosting" image. In other words, the screen's pixels refresh a few milliseconds slower in the cold. This is normal for LCDs AFAIK.

That's why a remote starter is great for the North. $400 for a toasty interior and a ready and capable engine. Not to mention it looks cool when you're with someone.

I made it through last winter here in Ohio with no problems with the NAV. Although we didn't have too harsh a winter and certainly nothing like Minnesota winters. Plus my car is parked in a garage.
