The pics you see above were comparing the original NAV DVD that came with the 2004 TSX (which was the Fall 2002 DVD) to the Fall 2003 DVD that 2004 TSX owners who bought their TSX's later towards the end of the year. The NAV DVD's appear to be updated every September. The Fall 2004 is available now and probably came with all new TSX's and TL's bought late last year.

From what I read in other thread, you DO NOT want to upgrade the firmware with a newer NAV DVD-ROM and then go back to using your original disc. It will cause problems and it won't work. You will then have to flash the firmware back to the previous version.

I bought my 05 TSX on DEcember 23rd 2004. The Nav Version my car came with is 3.40A. The Nav update page says that the newest version is 3.40B and that it wwould be available in DEC. 2004. I am going to call my dealer and ask them to give me the newest version. I did not pay $30K+ to get stuck with an old version when a new version was available.

Well, If you have 3.40A then I am guessing that the "B" version was just a minor change. 3.40A probably still came out after September 2004 (they only update them every fall). I am betting the map and POI data is the same. What is the date of the database on your 3.40A? You can find it under the setup page. It might be the last page.

No that probably won't work. According to this page...

https://iweb.alpine-usa.com/Acuradvdsales/naviorder.php

the latest 05 MDX NAV DVD is 4.13A. That tells me that it uses a different NAV system than the TSX and TL. The 05 RL also is at 4.13A which probably means it uses the same NAV as the 05 MDX.

And like I said on post 43 above. You can't take a newer NAV DVD and upgrade your firmware and then go back to using your old disc. Someone posted on here that it didn't work and they had to put the old firmware back.

I also have 3.40A. I recall my map database being timestamped 7/14/04.

Now they are saying on the order site that 3.40C is the latest version...

"Due to the high demand, the disc is currently unavailable. The latest version (version 3.40C) will be for sale early February. You can place an order now, and we will ship the product when it becomes available."

I wonder what they're doing to justify A, B, C subversions? I guess they don't have a 'release notes' to tell us, do they?

I find a lot of roads in my area to be flat out poorly mapped. Unfortunately for me, the worst cases are right where I live and right where I work! I have submitted this problems to navteq and have received "tracking #s." We'll see how that process works.

(heh - maybe I'm the reason for x.xxC! )

It looks like they've dropped the subversions on the Alpine site now... they are only listing 3.40 ! Mapquest should get into the business of auto navigation! They are so far ahead of the other suppliers to the auto nav business. There are tons of large cities that the Alpine site says they only have "unverified" coverage of (no turn by turn).

As the admin has said in other threads when this subject comes up, there is no talk of piracy allowed on this board.

Mapquest gets there data from two vendors, NavTeq and another vendor that escapes my right now. When you zoom in mapquest, your pretty much using NavTeq data.

On the drive itself there is a protective door that you push down. As I recall that should expose the slot as well as the eject button. The press the eject button.

So, What's the difference between 3.40A and 3.40C? Anyone have any idea?

I admit, that was good.

And it's probably the only difference, too.

If there are any differences they are probably minor. Coincedentally I just got a confirmation for my NAV DVD order I placed in January. It is finally shipping. The email said 3.40C.

It is not legal to copy the DVD. Besides it is written in a unique format that makes copying it non-intuitive.

You can buy the newest one here...

If that's true, then how do many people make their own copies with different splash screens via Bysin's mod?

for those wondering about the letter denotation...

How to determine your DVD version, and determine if you need a new version:
The version number is near the bottom of the DVD label. For a particular version number (like 3.30d), the map coverage typically remains the same during the entire model year - usually only the letter following the version changes (like the "d" in 3.30d), as minor software updates are made throughout the year.

I don't believe its illegal to copy a disc that you own, just like a dvd movie. I copied my dvd disc(yes it is possible & simple) and use it instead of the original navi disc. Been using it for a few months now.

People aren't copying the entore DVD, they are mearly patching a few files, saving to a CD and starting up the Nav with the new splash screen, then the DVD goes back in.

And as another poster states, it may be legal to make your own copy (I haven't read the licensing terms), but the orginal poster wanted someone to copy thier DVD and send it to them. Diffierent issue. Definatly not legal and may be a violation of the terms of this board too.

I'm interested in updating my Navi DVD this year. I know they generally update it in October of every year. Have they come out with one recently, or is 3.50 the update from last October?

I'm waiting for the new version to come out for the 04-05 as well. When i called Alpine inquiring when the new version is coming out, they didn't want to say. Hopefully it is soon.
