Nav or not

Hi all,
set to get my 05 TSX at the end of the month and I'm not sure if I should get the Navigation system. I realize this is a loaded question but should I? For everyone who has one, are you happy with it? How solid and responsive is it? Any positive or negative feedback will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Jrod05

I don't have the nav but speaking from the experience of being around the site I can't ever recall someone with Nav regretting the purchase.

Even if you live in Canada ? Isn't it true that the Canadian navigation has entire provinces that are missing ?

There have been many threads before that debate this subject and they all come to the same conclusion.....if you get the Navi, you won't regret it.

The only thing that I could do without is the nag screen, but I'm too much of a puss to hack my navi.

No regrets whatsoever! I don't really use the voice activation but it's nice to have. If you are in unlisted or newly built areas, it will leave "bread crumbs" so you can find your way back. That is definately a cool feature...

I absolutely love it. IMO, it really adds something to the car. The interior feels complete, and I love the system. I can't imagine the car without it.

I LOVE IT TOO! You don't understand how many times I've used it to get somewhere. All you have to do is call someone up if you don't know the address off the top of your head and BAM, you're all set. No more damn Mapquest printouts!

bigwilliestyle - you coming to the meet tomorrow? I want a good TSX showing.

totally!

You'll love how everything is integrated into the Nav screen. I know I love pressing the screen for radio stations instead of a button.

The only thing i hate about the Nag screen is that in order to turn up the A/C you have to hit "ok" on the nag screen. This takes like 10 seconds to come up before you can push it.
Unless you hit ok, you aren't allowed to change anything like radio or A/C. It just wont let you.
So in the summer...... it gets hot!

I don't know what kind of navi your working with, but i can access all the fuctions of the car except the actual navigation before hitting the OK button

I just drove from Pennsylvania to Chicago today, and in the morning, I will be heading to Colorado. I can't imagine making this trip without the Navi, especially in Chicago night traffic. If you ever take long trips or trips in new areas, the navi is worth its weight in gold. I was even able to meet up with a friend at a random restaurant after she gave me the crossroads, something I wouldn't even attempt to do if I had to go by written directions. Hell, when I jumped into my car this morning, I didn't even bring a backup map or anything. That's how good the Navi is. But that's just my opinion

One more thing... the automatic time synching is a nice touch, especially when driving across multiple time zones.

well worth the investment. the nav was priority for me...acura/honda has the best navi on the market so i had to get it...and considering i was moving up from a honda accord, i wanted the tsx to be more than just a better handling accord (i shouldnt really think tat way but tats how i thought :P).

the navi has worked wonders on me. went bowling with friends one night only to find the one we wanted to go was closed out for a private party so just searched for the next closest one...

and the prospect of adding a av unit to the navi to play videos/tv/movies is tantalizing...

I love it.

If you ever have to pick up a map, you'll want this on your car. If not, then it's not very useful...

also, IMO the TSX dash with navi looks better than the one without. It just adds to the whole look. Not to mention that u can install some aftermarket parts and be able to watch TV/Movies on the screen (the headrests are not big enough for u to install monitors unless they are like 3-4").

I also got it because i suck with directions

No no , i meant... before the OK button even shows up it takes probably at least 5-7 seconds. Before that ok button shows up, i can't even go into the A/C screen, nor will it let me use the A/C voice command.
It gets hot in the summer especially here in Ga with those 95-100 degree days and i have to sit in the car for a little while before i can hit Max AC and Max fan speed.

Get it, I have it and I love it, it makes the interior much nicer. Also, you can hack the navi boot up screen (see my avatar)

Get the Nav, or else you'll roll up to another TSX, turn your head and saw his Navi( Something your car don't have) and wish that you have gotten yourself a NAvi. Just do it.

When I was shopping for the cars I wanted to test and the TSX was on the list, I didn't plan on getting the Navi. However when the TSX I test drove had Navi and I nearly couldn't keep my mind on all the other aspects of the test drive because of the "fun factor" of the Navi. Not to mention how handy it is to be able to pinpoint and navigate to the nearest Wells Fargo ATM when you aren't in your neighborhood. Or the closest In-n-Out Burger when you have a hankering....you get the picture.

I won't have another car with a Navigational system. GET IT!

Seriously? What year do you have? Did they change stuff between 04 and 05? Man... mine's an 05. I just went into there and tried it. Until that "OK" button appears, i can't even go to the "audio" or the "A/C" screen to change anything.
I dont have to hit the OK button, but the button has to at least appear before i can change anything.

I think it's personal preference and how much you'll use it...

I seriously considered it. Then I thought about it. I know my city well and I use my car in the city/state (which I know well), about 85% of the time.

The question you have to justify is,

Is the navigation worth $2,000 to you and what you intend to use it for.

I didn't want to spend $2,000 (give or take) for something I wasn't going to use often and to show me directions to places I already know.

That $2,000 I'm saving is going elsewhere.

The Navi center is more than just a big map on the screen. Spend some time with it and all it's features (beyond just the navigaition part) and you'll think "why didn't I get this????"

Speaking as a fellow GTA'er, the navi is well worth it. I haven't tried taking the car outside of the GTA yet, but the DVD covers most of the places I would go in Canada (East of Ontario). I think there is missing provinces, but do you really think you're going to drive to them (Praries)

That's right. You'll get the following:

A trip computer with realtime mpg gauge (not even TL owners get this..they will be jealous when they see this!

A calculator with metric/english conversion

store a TON of addressed in the address book, good for frequently visited places..and do the "minimize freeway" method when you know there is an accident

a calendar with popup reminder...good for reminding to do something when you rush out to the car in the morning (saved my butt a few times)

go to the "hidden menu" when you're curious about satellites and stuff

a much more "integrated" interior look

as mentioned before, able to do video conversion to play dvds, etc..although I opted for the "dual screen" look
