Post MotorTrend Claims 260hp turbo 4-cyl in the works!

I know there has been talk here about a possible turbo, but I never really beleived it since Honda traditionally builds, and is known for, great, high-revving NA 4-cylinders.

However, according to this month's Motor Trend mag, the new Acura RDX (small SUV) coming out early next year will have a new 260hp turbocharged 4-cyl engine and the Super-Handling AWD system from the RL. That is basically all it says, but I though everyone here would want to know.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for 06, but I'm guessing the next TSX will having this engine. The new RDX will be based on a new CR-V platform, and since the CR-V has the same engine as the Accord/TSX, I assume the new turbo will be based on the 2.4L engine and will make it's way into the TSX.

Still speculative. Until I see the press release from Honda or a picture of the motor in the RDX, it's all speculation.

However, even the folks at TOV say that the source that Motor Trend is getting this info from is supposedly air tight. We'll see what happens.

A small two sentance "blurb" in Motor Trend is far from "confirmed"

I've given up any speculation on honda models until they are in showrooms with stickers on the window

the future of honda isn't in turbo's its in economical, dependable & ecological vehicles...

accord hybrid....element hyrbids etc etc
I mean its sure cool to have the fastest (whatever)
but its more marketable to sell ot EVERYONE then just a select demographic

I would love to see this engine, new honda technology with a turbocharger. If it goes into the TSX, I'll trade my car in before you can say "huge loss of residual value"

Honda does target many demographic groups, but keep in mind that their whole marketing revolves around reliability, efficiency (hence the hybrids), and performance. Don't forget Honda's racing heritage.

sigh, just get the comptech supercharger on the TSX instead of waiting. With s/c 260hp still underpowered running against the 3rd gen Acura TL. The RL is way overpriced and doesn't even have VTEC.

I totally agree! Remeber when all the mags were sure the S2000 was going to have a V5 engine (yes you read that right) ? So we all know they've been bad wrong before -- this is just another example.

Speaking of hybrid, if the TSX is ever equipped with IMA, I hope it gets better MPG than the Accord hybrid.

The Accord hybrid is listed at 32/37 but gets something near 26MPG.

They should go the S4 route and put 2 really small turbos on the TSX that spool up quickly and beef up power nicely. Imagine a twin-turbo K24!!

I know, i know...i'm going too far

A 260hp s/c TSX should hang fairly well with a 3G TL in the straights and would probably smoke it in the twisties. You forget the TSX weighs some 250 pounds less.

You're mistaken again: RL's 300HP VTEC V6

Not enough room under the hood. No need for twin turbos either. 1 would spool up just fine.

Forced Inductions isn't exactly Honda's forte, but considering they do have a turbocharged vehicle (wave runner), who knows... they might be working on FI projects in their R&D department. If this did come to fruition, it would make sense to compete with the Mazdaspeed 6.

Or.....
You can have someone fab' an exhaust manifold and use the RSX HKS turbo kit, or wait for MrHeelToe's kit to come out...
