Dubious honors

Wait'll you see who else makes it:

"The top five most expensive cars to insure were the Dodge Viper, Acura NSX, Jaguar XKR, Porsche 911 and BMW M5."

http://www.insurancejournal.com/news...1/14/35770.htm

I think it's cool that the 13-year old Acura is listed among those other distinguished cars.

That's as much a factor of the collision repair costs as the danger of the vehicle... The Corvette has the same insurance rating as the NSX & 911 (27 - the highest).

Hence, it's a dubious honor.

On the NSX, what did you expect? They make about 100 of them annually, and they're made of aluminum. All things considered, you'd think it would be much worse.

Ain't it the truth. Don't you just love watching those Geico commercials, especially when New Jersey isn't eligible to participate in it?

Have you guys looked into NJM insurance? I'm paying $1200 a year for my TSX and am expecting another 15% return ($180) through their dividend program.

They do have strict enrollment requirements (including good driving history, and your work place has to belong to NJ business association) but they were significantly cheaper than others.

I know someone who insured his NSX for about $100 a year through "specialty insurance". The folks here from the "finance" board will know exactly who I'm taking about. Only problem is that this type of insurance is for exotics or show cars that are not everyday drivers and there's no liability coverage.

Hmmm...I spend over $2,400 a year on a 97' Ford Thunderbird. I'm 19, have a high GPA (student discount), am enrolled in a full load of classes, and have never gotten a ticket or an accident. I wonder how much I'd have to pay a monthwith those cars.
