To Mod or not to mod

Allright guys heres my delema...

as you know I have a 5AT NHB TSX, w/ euro R grill badges, CAI, Toyo Proxies tires, Speaker upgrades, painted calipers and I have Comptech Springs waiting to be installed...

Im a college student, so while im at school im not working, so i really dont have much of a source of income, right now i dont even have the car w/ me at school...so its not like i can drive somewhere and get a real job... I got about 300$ left, 100 of which needs to go to the guy whos helping me install the springs, and the rest probilly will go to respraying the front bumper because that guy hit me and ran

end of the summer ill prob have from 2- 3,000 $ Id love to work on the TSX.....but at the same time I gotta admit I kinda want to move on, get something faster and sportier, right now i have my sights on the 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt... Its a great car, 5 Speed MT tranny, rear wheel drive (sux in snow but RWD is alot of fun), and it comes stock w/ alot of upgrades (suspension, brakes, exaust, Stereo)...so i dont know if I should put any more $ into the TSX, cause ill prob gonna sell it end of next winter....sp should I keep on working on the TSX (thinkin of: Front and Rear Sway, Euro R kit, Rims, ect) or should i just start saving up now, so i can afford the insurance on the mustang in a year...

BTW: not to encite any of the usual arguments, Im a kid yes, I put down my own money on the TSX, and I am a responsible driver, I drive fast but im not stupid..

That mustang is ugly as sin, but I'd say anything you decide is probably a bad idea. If you're broke you shouldn't be putting any money into any kind of car, especially when you're at school most of the year and can't enjoy. My suggestion is to drive a beater and be patient and get something when you're done w/ school so you can a) enjoy it and b) afford it

Also to tell the honest truth, i dont feel like i deserve a car like the TSX...its a great car, and even though ill deny it to my last breath, putting honda badges on it, the euro plate, and the little noisemaker under the hood we call a CAI is kinda ricey...and ruining a great little Sport Sedan.

The spring install shouldn't be that bad. Are you having a friend help you? If so, why is he charging you? Get another friend to help you out because you can go to a shop and get it done for $100.

HOLY CRAP! $300 to install springs on a new car! What a ripoff, those guys are crazy. Too bad you don't have a friend who has a garage because all you really need is a socket wrench with the correct socket, spring compressors, car jack, and someone else. Though my experience is with installing springs on an Integra and a WRX.

I wouldn't mod if there is a likelihood that you will sell. My husband and I both have mods on all three of our cars, and if you are going to be trading in, you will need to return your car to stock in order to get a higher price. Dealers generally don't budge on this. We are currently looking at having to sell a custom stage 3 turbo kit separately if we want to sell the car that it modifies.

If you are 85% sure you can easily sell through a private sale, then you may be able to sell more easily with mods, but it's never a sure bet.

I wouldnt call the CAI rice....the sound isnt rices and it is functional so i think thats a little off target. And if thats rice, what would the same thing be doing it to a mustang? Its still "rice" just domestic style vs Import style.

mustang all id prob be doing to it is exaust/headers/ put the 03 Cobra Hood on it, cause it looks alot more 1968 Style then the GT hood

FYI: 2001 Bullitt Mustang was a special Edition GT made to honor the Steve Mc Queen Cult Classic "Bullitt".... it features an upgraded suspension, brakes, Exaust, Seats, Gauges, Engine is also slightly modified, and it comes in 3 colors, True Blue, Black or my personal Favorite Highland Green, which is a color that only exists on a 1960's mustangs and this 01 mustang

CAI is definitely not rice. It is a functional mod. For new people they might think it is, but if you read up on your basic bolt ons, they actually do relieve restrictions in the exhaust system if properly combined.

Im not saying there is anything wrong with those mustangs, and i know they were built because of Steve McQueen, because i think tehre was a bullit addition way back in the day, not sure though. Im just saying that calling a functional part, such as a CAI, onto a TSX rice but saying exhaust/headers and hood on a mustang is ok...if one is rice so is the other....

well allright CAI in theroy isnt rice, the honda badges prob are ... I just ment the CAI changes the tone, and it is somewhat ricey, the TSX unfortinutly will always sound somewhat ricey since its only a 4 cyl engine, however it defenutly sounds nicer then most 4 cyl

No matter how fast, RWD, etc etc...

Mustang = White Trash Chariot.

Although i'd take an '04 Cobra any day of the week.

Mrsteve is correct...all the generalities that accompany imports and 4 cylinders as ricey, such as the sound.....can extend to the mustang in just the same way....

dont get me wrong i think you shoudl get what you want and i wish you luck with your mustang....im just giving my opinion on the rice debate.

And while the new emblems might be the rice.....the idea of the CAI isnt!

Don't mod it if you plan to sell it. You will never get back the full amount that you paid for the parts.

Aftermarket parts usually don't hold their full value so you'll lose some money in the end. Plus if you aren't driving it all the time, you won't be able to enjoy all of your mods anyway.
