Mobil 1 0w-30 motor oil
Anyone use 0w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil? On the quart, it says it meets all the warranty requirements of 5w-30 motor oil and offers a small gas mileage improvement.
Any problems with the lighter oil? Burning? Damage?

I ran this in my '06 TL. M1 0w-30 Advanced Fuel Economy.
the only problem with this oil is that its made to sheer, in order to improve gas mileage by 1.
so if you do lots of hard driving, its probably not good for your engine, as the oil will sheer.
I'm running M1 0w-40 right now.
offers more protection through a higher HTHS(High temperature High sheer) rate of 3.8%
as opposed to the HTHS rate of 2.99% with 0w-30 AFE.
if you run the 0w-30 AFE, dont expect it suddenly give you more MPG.

I used 0W-30 Mobil 1 consistently in my turbo Audi's and I use it for the winter in my 05 TSX as the car stays outside now. I'm not sure if it actually provides better protection during startup in the real cold weather, but I'm confident it won't hurt. That said, I doubt it really helps gas mileage any. Why don't I use it year round? Well, the problem with variable weight oils is, the wider the range of SAE "weight", the more additives the oil has in it. Hence, the more additives, the less oil (for instance, there are less additives in 10W-30 than there are in 10W-40). Because of that, evidently we should use as tight a range as possible, so I use 5W-30 pretty much spring, summer, and fall, and 0W-30 in the real cold months. Of course everyone is free to use whatever they want, but it would seem to me that unless there's some particular reason (other than "feel good"), I don't see any need for using anything else.

still plays with cars
The gas mileage improvement will only be at cold temperatures. At 212 degrees, they are all a 30 viscosity and there will be no difference in fuel mileage at all. And, that's about the operating temperature of the crankcase when the engine is completely warmed up.

For my 08 TSX, the manual says you can use 10w-30 if the temperature doesn't drop below 0 degrees F. Is it safe or recommended to switch from 5w-30 to 10w-30 during California summer months? I use synthetic. I figure there is less shear with a 10w-30 oil and where I live it never goes below 38 degrees, even in winter.
