Metallic noise fixed
Metallic noise fixed
I had previously posted about an usual metallic noise I was picking up on my TSX starting at about 500miles. We now have 2000miles and the noise wasn't going away.
At low speeds and mostly during breaking we would hear a loud metallic scraping noise coming from under the car. There were no performance issues at all with braking or handling.
After an initial look by the dealer, we took it back for a more extensive inspection. They checked the brakes and suspension, everything looked normal. They even checked their internal service database for the TSX to see if this unusual noise was an issue. They also couldn't duplicate the noise. So I go to pick up the car and sure enough the noise shows up, right in front of the service guy.
He isolates the noise to the right front wheel and they keep it for another day or so. They discover that the back plate behind the rotor was scraping against the rotor. It was a small amount of metal-to-metal contact, but there were some visible scratches on this black back plate. Also, it would explain why the noise would show up even without braking as the rotor rotates with the tire.
They made some slight adjustments to the distance between the back plate and the rotor. So far, no noise. Kudos to Acura service. I know a few others have experienced something similar. Check out the original thread...

Mine was at the bottom of the plate as well. Fortunately, it wasn't bent, just some minor scratches on the plate.
When did yours start showing up? How did you fix it (via Acura service)? I'm wondering if this is a design flaw, or a manufacturing flaw. Acura service didn't have a reasonable explanation as to why it happened.
