Max speed for 5AT = 214MPH
With no wind resistance, 5AT TSX will top out at 214 MPH and 6MT at 171MPH.

So yeah, in a world with no drag (which includes, I presume, no rolling friction from tires, or any other kind of friction) the 5AT would top out at a higher speed. That is, the 5AT at redline and in top gear goes faster than the 6MT at redline in top gear.
All of which is a nice way of saying that the 5AT is geared more aggressively. In the real world, it doesn't mean the car can go any faster.

My old 2L GTI could easily hit 180mph with 115hp.

The 6MT is geared more aggressively. It has shorter (higher ratio gears). The 5AT has taller (lower ratio), less aggressive gears.
So ya if you redlined 5th gear in a 5AT you would be doing 214mph. But this will never ever happen on the planet earth.
As for which has the higher top speed on earth, I would guess its the 6MT since it will be making more torque at the wheels (because of the higher gear ratio) at or near the air resistance limit.

can someone tell me why this measurement was made in the first place? what a stupid thing to measure. and top speed that we cant reach for too many reasons. the main one being that the cars engine wont speed up after a point way the down lower.
seems meaningless to know this info or worry about it
