Max HP/Torque needed?
Max HP/Torque needed?
I was driving my TSX on the highway last night and since there was no cars around, I tried to give it a push. I reached 200KM/hour in no time and slowed down with a lot of confidence(thanks to TSX's beautiful handling and brakes). DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. I have enough confidence in my driving and the road I was driving on to do this, and no I'm not a kid in bad need of speed.
I was thinking. What is the real reason behind people wanting to have a 300HP car? In North-America the maximum speed limit is about 100-110KM(55-65miles), and the TSX's 4 banger is more than enough for whatever the hell you're planning to do.
Even in city, the TSX provides more than enough rant to catch any moving thing within seconds(granted you know how to drive).
So why sacrifice so much fuel economy when there's no need? This is in reply to those who say "TSX is a nice car but it's only a 4 cylinder"
SO?!!!

I agree, for the most part. The TSX is great on the highway and has more than enough power for 98% of my driving. I think the real issue here is tourque. City driving and stop and go traffic are more enjoyable in a tourquey car. The Accords 244HP/212 lb-ft V6 is IMO the perfect compromise.

Others want more, but I'd be happy with a 225 lb-ft TSX, and hp wouldn't matter as much. That torque would allow me to avoid errant SUVs, slammed caprice classics, and hyperactive civics and be able to have some fun too. And on motorcycles,I have a torquey SV 650 V-twin that is quick down low but lacks top speed capability of supersport bikes. I wish the TSX had 75% of its torque!

Very well said Jlukja. That's why I don't get caught up in tryin' to get higher HP numbers than anyone other than myself.
well as someone that has experienced the upper echelon of luxury sedans (BMW 750Li) the power in the TSX leaves you definetly wanting more...not saying you need 360hp but it definetly makes driving easier...especially with a flat wide power band it makes driving much easier and enjoyable...I never had to pass 4k rpm in the BMW to get moving at ANY speed while having to rev to redline constantley to get power from the TSX...I love the TSX but its major lack is power at its weight it should have at least 50hp more than it does with power coming on lower...maybe even if it stayed the same 200hp and say 75% of that more come on by 3k it would turn it into a different beast...but basically its been covered over and over sure we dont need a 300hp TSX but a 230hp TSX with 190 available by 3k rpm would make a great car that much better

* Most all of the 4+ megapixel cameras sold today are really limited in resolution by their small, lackluster lens rather then the number of pixels they try to boast. This doesn't apply to the larger digital cameras that have a lens size approaching those of SLR cameras (but that is not the most consumers purchase).
They should make a hybrid TSX with 100 lbs of extra torque from the electric motor. Best of both worlds, high revving engine and plenty torque to pin you back in the seat (plus better gas mileage. I know, don't forget the sh-awd.
Realistically, the price you pay for a hybrid very competitive with a S/C (S/C only give you 30-40 extra lbs of torque). The big advantage with the electric motor is 100% of the torque is available at very low RPMs.

I once had a diesel car with 80bhp. It moved along in city traffic effortlessly, thanks to all of the turbocharged torque at low RPM. I was able to outaccelerate typical people in normal traffic, and the car was capable of cruising at 80mph while just modulating the throttle like you would in any other "typical" car.
When you get used to it, you think to yourself "wow, I have all kinds of pedal left, I'm barely working this engine!". Then you floor the accelerator and realize that you've been driving with the engine at 90% all this time.
