Which machine sounds meaner? B-series or K-series?
Everytime I gun my TSX, my wife tells me she just loves the sound of the CAI growl. Unfortunately, she always seems to follow it with the comment, "It reminds me of how mean your Integra sounded." :silvercup
Compared to the B-series motors, the K-series is better in just about every category: Smoothness, torque, fuel ecomonmy, emissions, and an almost stepless vtec transition. Sound-wise, it's difficult to top a B18C5 screaming in vtec. And that's with the stock airbox on. Add a CAI and its easy to get irritated on a long trip.
So, I pose the question to the previous B-series owners: Which is the better sounding motor at vtec? To me, the B-series motors were designed more impractical with very low displacement and poor cruising drivability. It really was designed to be revved. On the other hand, the K-series motors seems to have more emphasis on emissions and noise levels than its predesessor with much more power down low. As a result, the engine almost sounds "wimpy" in stock form with a higher pitched note.

Well never persoanlly owning a B16/18 but working a lot on them with friends, and being such they are a dime a dozen here in Cali.
If you were to say "meaner" I would have to say the K.
The B series to me with just CAI or Short RAM sounds whinny, especially in VTEC.
But the K with its 2.4 sounds throatier and deeper in iVTEC.
Similar to my F22 '91 Accord....non-VTEC of course
...and much like the H/F22/23 series too IMHO....

I think the K series sounds better, but I'd say the B sounds meaner. Especially the K24 is very quiet and smooth, B18s sound like they're going to explode violently any second.

I never really understood the appeal of the pronounced step in power from the older Honda engines. Doesn't seem very practical and/or oriented for usable performance, though I'm sure it probably feels pretty cool and exciting. ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My TSX has a pretty noticeable step in power IMO. I'm used to cars with seamless power, and there is most definitely a change in both sound and acceleration when I reach 6000 RPM. I couldn't imagine living with a car that has more of a step.
I think they both have an unmistakable Honda-ish sound, but in my opinion the K series seems to sound a bit more threatening and/or massive. The K series seems to do a lot of things better, and it spins "the correct direction" (my old school Honda friends hate it when I say that)

i would just drop the shifter and there was a mean ass screaming transition at 6800+ rpms. going at 110mph (briefly) the rpms would just scream at 5th. i loved my 00 SI!![Scream](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/scream.gif)
but when it got jacked it was time to move on...i love the K now, it's better in many ways.
