lower control arm as jack stand?

i use a jack to raise the car last night, but it wasn't high enough to place jack stand on the stardard jack points. today my friend suggest to place jack stand under the front lower control arm near the wheels. is this safe to do so? will it damange the suspension?

thanks

what exactly are you trying to do?

fyi - if you refer to the a-spec install instructions, iirc, one of the steps is to lift the car up from the lower control arm, using a floor jack, to preload the suspension prior to securing the bolts tightly.

thanks. i found the regular jack spot was too low for my jack stand when i raise my TSX to inspect the underbody/tires last night. not trying to install anything, but i want to know if lower control arm is able to support the weight, like jack stand point. that was what my friend was suggesting but i would not do without some openion from the PRO here.
thanks!!

I don't think the control arm is designed to hold the weight of the car. It's there to control the wheel's orientation. My jackstands are too tall for even a TSX at stock height. Another TSX owner on the other forum found other spots to put the jackstands at (it was towards the center of the rear jacking points...I didn't get to see what was supporting it)

afici0nad0's post is in regard to using a jack to preload the suspension during a suspension install. This is not the same as jacking the car up (the car will already be jacked up).

Maybe we need to see if stores have shorter jackstands

Instead of the standard jacking points, you can use a point on the frame or the point where the frame and the front subframe connect to position the jackstand.
