Large rocks cause damage

I pay my second payment on my TSX today. As are many of you on this site, I am anal about my car. I was driving, with about 5 car lengths of following distance between me and a large flatbed truck, when a baseball size rock tumbles off the bed and takes out my foglight, and a golfball size rock takes a hunk out of my front bumper lip. I didn't realize the damage until I got home. I thought the first one was low enough where I ran over it, as I felt it. Come to find out, it tore right through my fog. See the pictures below.

The nick in the bumper is about the size of a nickel. There is a smaller one right underneath the broken fog on the edge.

It will be about $400 to repair the bumper and re-clear coat it, and install a new fog light. The fog light assembly is ~$100 for parts. 2 years from now I could see fixing the fog and leaving the bumper alone, but I barely have it broken in.

I don't want the underbody kit, just so you know -- I can read your minds.

ouch, sorry to hear about that. I also have had my tsx for about 2 payments and yesterday i ran over a black piece of plastic that was sitting in the roadway at night. Since i couldn't swerve since there were cars beside me, i ran over it thinking it was soft. I was wrong, it was the hard kind. It scratched up my front bumper. I took my porter cable out when i got home and buffed it down so they are very unnoticeable now. When i get a chance i will see if i can get them out completely.
It looks like somebody blew out a tire and left the blown out tire in the road and the plastic fender well piece that came apart. DAMN IT, why can't people just pick it up? You know he obviously stopped to change his tire.

I also bought some paint to touch up some rock chips, I have one the front edge of the hood right in the middle.

But this... that's just terrible, sorry

I guess I was using the title as more of a headline as in a newspaper headline, not a statement as in a new found phenomena.

But yes, it's true, large rocks do cause damage.

Unhappy

ouch...that's horrible.

i have to drive on a 2-lane highway to work every morning. tons of big trucks carrying, or kicking up, gravel and rocks. damaged 3 of the 5 cars i've owned (including 2 replaced windshields). i'm moving in a month, so i won't have to deal with it anymore. thank buddha.

sorry to see the damage. hopefully it won't cost you too much to get fixed.
