KP Tech. Electronic Beep Module

Over the weekend, I installed the Reverse Tilt Mirror module and the Electronic Beep Module from KP Technologies. The mirror module tilts the passenger-side mirror down when you put the transmission in reverse (great for parallel parking). The electronic beep module replaces the heart-stopping "HONK!" when you press the lock button on the remote twice.

For anyone who has installed this module and/or who is very familiar with the factory alarm/keyless entry system, I have two questions. First, a quick overview of the operation of the electronic beep module:
Press lock once on the remote = 1 beep
Press unlock once on the remote = 2 beeps

1) Will the beep still sound if one of the door lock actuators is not working? (I tapped into the door lock/unlock actuator wires located in Harness "K" that plugs into the driver's side fuse box. I don't know if this was exactly the right place to tap into, but it was the only thing I found.)

I ask this question because on our 2003 TL, when the OEM beep failed to sound after the second button-push, that was how we discovered a door lock actuator failure. This happened to us twice, and it was a great way to learn that our doors were not locking.

2) After installation, the beep sounds when I hit the lock button once. If I hit the lock button again within ~15 seconds, the beep sounds and so does the horn. Is there some way to disable the horn sound for this activity?

FWIW, I emailed KP Tech about this, but they've not answered.

just wondering, if your alarm goes off, will it sound the horn or just the beeps?

how hard was the installation?

My neighbor has a first gen TSX, not sure what year. But when they lock it, it sounds the beep. I thought all acuras were this way. Didn't know the TSX actually honked the horn.

I think you're right about that.

I hardly ever "beep" mine. I can hear the locks engage when I press it the first time and that's good enough for me.

OP, did you have to buy the bosch style relay to get it to work in conjunction with the parking lights?

KP Tech answered me the next day.

Delerious: No and no. The beep module is actually kind of useless. When you hit the lock button on the keyfob twice, the horn still honks. We could disconnect that somehow, but the beep module doesn't tie in to the four doors, hood, and trunk latches, so if we did prevent the horn from sounding with the factory alarm, the beep would not inform us if we left the hood or trunk open, or—and this is has been a warning signal two times now on our 2003 TL—the beep will still beep even if a door lock actuator (any one besides the driver's door) is broken.

To put it another way, when the rear door lock actuator went bad on the TL, the only way my sig. other knew it was going bad is that the car wouldn't beep upon the second press of the remote button (the TLs beep, 2005 and later TSXes beep, but us early TSX adopters get the super obnoxious horn). Then a year later, the other rear door lock actuator went bad, and when the car wouldn't beep, she knew immediately what was wrong, and we fixed it right away. This beep module is utterly useless. Wholly pointless. Plus—and this could be a fault of the installer (me)—it beeps every time you unlock/lock the door not using the fob. Stupid. Nothing against KP Tech—they're awesome. And the mirror module is great. This one, though, was mostly a waste of money. The one thing it does do is provide audible, non-obnoxious notification that you did, in fact, lock or unlock the door(s) on the first press of the keyfob. So if you're in a loud location or are far enough away that you can't hear the locks lock, you can still hear a beep.

And since it only ties into the driver's side door lock (and not the factory alarm system), when the factory alarm is triggered, it will still sound the same.

Thanks for the info. I was on the fence, but this definitely settles it...very disappointing.

Has anyone tried wiring the 2004s the same as the 2005+ models? or is it even possible?
