Key cost

Hi everybody, I'm a newbie and got my CG TSX two weeks ago. Unfortunately, when I went to a restaurant last night, the valet lost my entire key chain (I don't know how they did it). Yes, I know it was stupid to not just give them the key or just the valet key, but because of some past bad experiences, I thought it would be ok this time.

Service parts is closed today so I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much it would cost to replace the ignition key and the keyless entry thing. I tried to search for it, but was unsuccessful. Please don't flame me, I'm a noobie!

Thanks for the responses. I talked to the owner of the valet service and she said she'd repay me for the lost key and remote, so I was wondering how much they cost so I could give her an estimate.

Situation sounds kinda fishy. They usually tag those keys to prevent such situations.

If your car gets stolen, you should have a chat with the valet.

yeah i would get something written that they are causing a increased risk of ure car being stolen, make her pay to get the car rekeyed tell her they wont give out a new key because of the chance someone might have it

If, on your "entirel keychain", you also had house keys, give some thought to replacing those as well - one enterprising crook used to have duplicate keys made while the car was being held, then locate the home, and............... sorry to be so suspicious.

Yes, my entire keychain that contained my house keys as well as my car keys went missing. Luckily I was able to call someone who had my spare key and remote and so I was able to take my car home. It's odd because my car wasn't stolen. My car is fairly new, so it doesn't have a license plate yet, so I wonder if they would make a large effort to try to find my car to steal it. Also, my keychain was worth some money (a Tiffany's keychain - a gift), so maybe they just wanted the keychain? But the valets looked pretty upset and shaken up that they lost the keys (Valet of the Dolls), so I hope that nothing shady is going on and someone is trying to get to my home, which is a scary thought that never crossed my mind until now.

May be unduely pessimistic, but - if you are "known" to the valet parking group, it might be an outside concern. I've always kept car and house keys quite separate, and I have always been fairly careful to keep where I live somewhat private in those kinds of public settings in order to avoid that concern. Most valet park folks are decent guys, and I am sure the management of the valet agency is upset; they know that they are always the "first line of attack" when keys are lost; people tend to assume the worst, usually unfairly. However, my comment is based on a new story about a series of incidents that occurred with the valet parking team at a very "trendy" restaurant in Philadelphia a number of years ago.

You can get keychains that "unlock", so that you keep all of the keys on one chain, but have a release link so that keys can be released separately.

yeah, i dont trust any one with my car. i mean who knows if those guys treat my car the way i do. and i doubt they do. so ill take that extra time to park my car so i know that its in a safe place and whatnot. but if worst comes to worst ill lock my car up and give them the single valet key. and dont beleive i wont give them hell about it.

A little OT, but the garage in my apt building is used by a valet service. Man, those guys drive like crazy. Makes me a little leery of using valets now.

rubysoma, don't let this slide. That disclaimer saying they're not liable is pretty flimsy legally I've heard.

This isn't a newsflash but valet's DON'T treat our cars like we do. You've seen hidden camera news stories on TV that show them rifling through the interior for stuff to steal. It happens.

The valet service at my mom's condo has taken change ($5 or $6 in quarters at time) and a moderately nice camera. This isn't like a restaurant where they're not gonna see you again. They park her car EVERY DAY. Such immense balls.

My boss had his car valet parked (for $15) at a swanky steak place on South Beach. The car came back with a PARKING TICKET on it. When he complained to the manager they said "Tough." He's pretty mild mannered so he didn't take it much farther. Can you FUCKING imagine?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I called the service department and they said the ignition key would cost $46 and the remote would cost $155.26 (I guess that includes tax?). They asked whether or not I had navi and whether or not I drove auto. I wasn't aware that there were different keys/remotes based on navi vs non-navi and auto vs manual.

It could have been worse - I lost a remote key control; my secretary had previously lost the original key, and the whole key assembly had to be replaced at a cost that was about triple what you will end up paying.

Still the whole deal is pretty frustrating and tiresome.
