kewl then 93 it is. 93 is pretty expensive though. I think i last saw 93 gas being sold for $1.78 a gallon in my area.

I put in 89 becuase 93 is kinda expensive $1.67 (93) vs. $1.55 (89).

When I bought my TSX I only put in 93 octane during the first 7 months, then I started using 89 and I don't notice a drop in performance and my avg. fuel efficiency went up by 2MPG to 24MPG after the change to 89.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO TO THE GAS STATION!!!!!!

Do NOT put gas under the hood. It won't work.

You have to go to the left side of your car, behind the passanger door. There is a little door there that is released by a lever to the left of the drivers seat. Open the little door, unscrew the cap, PUT THE GAS IN THE HOLE!

Noobs

Also, be sure not to use Diesel gasoline when filling up

Ok, to be serious the manual recommends 91 octane. However, I was just checking out the Acura site (or was it Edmunds? CRAP, I can't remember, anyways) they had an asterisk next to the "91" with a note at the bottom that said that using 89 octane will result in decreased performance. How much of a decrease? But it seems to indicate that use of 89 octane will not damage the engine. Also, this has been discussed in quite some detail on other threads. You may want to do a search.

No offense, but you spent $26k on the car and $0.12/gal. is an issue when you're getting 22-24MPG?

The increase in mileage may be attributable to your car breaking in over time, but that's just a guess.

I don't know if there are long-term issues with the lower octane, so I'll stick to the manual's requirements of 91 or better.

my sentiments exactly. seriously, if you fill up 2/3 way down, it'll be about 12 gallons right? so the difference will be under 1.50 everytime you pump. c'mon...

save your dimes somewhere else. like beer. stock up when they have 8.99 specials on bud light. you just saved yourself at least 2 dollars per 12 pack.

Probably Edmunds. From the manual, p.184

"Your Acura was designed to operate on premium unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number of 91 or higher. Use of a lower octance gasoline can cause a persistent, heavy metallic rapping in the engine that can lead to mechanical damage."

No * or other footnotes. I'm not sure how much of this verbiage is "cover your ass" on Honda's part, but you may consider yourself warned.

Actually, I just found it. Its on Acura.com in the TSX module
http://www.acura.com/models/model_sp...asp?module=tsx
and its a double asterisk. Look under "General Specifications"

Ok then 93 it is. I don't mind paying alittle more for the best gas but if i didn't have to then i would of put 89. Thx for the quick responses everyone.

Ohh and what type or grade of motor oil should we use ? I forgot to ask the salesman when i brought it. The salesman did tell me when i should come in for my first oil change. He told me to come when the car reaches 5,000 miles and then change it every 10,000. That seems pretty high. I'm used to changing my oil every 3,000 miles.

5W30, it's on the dipstick. 5k is the severe schedule and 10k is the regular schedule.

A contradiction - imagine that? Those of you using 89 should keep a local copy of the page in case Acura service brings this up later.

I agree that you should stick to 91 or higher on the fuel. Just like Honda recommends in the manual. As for oil changes, use HONDA oil and filters. It's pretty much futile to use anything else (especially for the money). Mobil makes the oil and Fram makes the filters for Honda. The changes are at 7500-10000 though, just like the book says. The part about 5k for extreme conditions is true, though. Especially if you live somewhere where it gets over 85 degrees outside. That automatically puts you into the extreme category of servicing. Have no fear. I've been down this road a time or two. Having been an owner of a TSX and an RSX-S in addition to about 6 other Hondas, being a car nut that works on these for a hobby, and being employed at a store (and having 4 years with Honda/Acura) might give you a little confidence in a reputable source.

FYI, Acura Canada only lists the severe service schedule - so that applies to cold temps as well.
