Installing Wig-Wags

Installing Wig-Wags
Ok folks, I have been trying to install wig-wags for about 3 months now for my new vol EMT job. I am, of course, installing the flasher unit to the high beams and NOT the HID lights. Each bulb has 2 wires. One is black, and one is white. When I first installed the flasher unit, both beams flashed at the same time, so obviously the high beams must be attached by one common wire. I then bought a relay to break this common connection. My first problem is I cant figure out whether the white wire, or black wire is the one I need to cut. The second problem is the relay has 5 wires but according to directions (police3304.com) only 4 are used, so does this mean one wire just hangs there? Would splicing the wire for the left light as opposed to the right make a difference? Please Help!!!

I forgot a couple more details. The way I have it connected now is the right white wire (although I tried the black one as well) is spliced and connected to the relay. The left lamp will flash, but the right does nothing.

Just buy a blue light and throw it on the dash dude. People dont get out of the way anyway, not worth it. Hell people don't get out of the way of the fire truck with sirens and air horns blairing. Trust me, you're not going to get to the station any faster.

Sorry to go off topic, but how did you get the job? What training do you need?
intensity2x: They might not where you live, but they do for the most part everywhere else, atleast from what I've seen. I'm guessing he is in a more rural area rather than a large city.

If its volunteer, its not really a job, just stop by the first aid squad / firehouse if you see people there and ask how you can join. Most (if not all) places are dying for volunteers and will be glad to take you. Requirements vary from state to state but for EMT you should have to take a certification class, I forget how long maybe 6 weeks? Firefighter is same thing but the class is longer, about 120 hours. Some departments are together and you'll need both certs. Best way to find out is just stop by and talk to the people. They'll be glad to tell you all about it.
