LA to NY

Well, I started my Cross country trip for the Summer from LA to NY. I left two nights ago and Arrived in San Antonio and am going to stay here and hang around for a week or so before I continue again. First thing I did when I got here at 3am is wash my car, of course.

Here's a couple pictures

by the way. find something to cover your front bumper.
weather like this, it got me so much bug sxxx i couldn't even get them off during carwash.... it's PIA.
cover with plastic wrap or something - - ; trust me it will look ugly with all those bugs for several days.
drive safe.

I could imagine the front end was covered with bug splatter; I just recently took a trip from Vancouver to Edmonton stopping to see all the sights in between. When I went to return the rental Durango the manager looked at me and was in shock, “Wow that’s a lot of bug splatter”. Pre-return, I hosed it down with water but nothing to special.

Ok, I've heard people talk about this before, but can somebody elaborate??

When people talk about saran wrap, are yall literally meaning just to cover the front end in it and then peel it off later???

not sure about that
but i really did think about putting some plastic wraps around my front bumper - -
i mean with all those bug sxxx, to clean those off the correct way, u need some mad microfiber sponge to wash them 3~4 times, that way you don't get any scratch.

i also thought about getting a full front car bra, one of those acura accessory leather thing... it looks actually very useful when doing highway miles ,especially in the summer.

How hard is it to get a CB license? I've been meaning to get one, but haven't gotten around to it. I used to do use my dad's CB when I was a pre-teen, but now that I work for a law enforcement agency, I ought to be compliant with the law =P

You have to have a license to operate a CB radio?

1400 miles? sounds familiar, i would suggest that no one try to drive across texas in one shot.

as far as i know, you do not need a license unless you broadcast more than 100+ miles

all you gotta do is go to walmart or your local truck stop and get yourself a radio and an antenna
my setup set me back about $40 and the antenna is a magnetic base mount so no drilling needed

In May my husband and I did a 6,452 mile roadtrip from NC (wilmington area) to CA (San Diego and back. We stopped to get the car washed (self-service ones) numerous times to get rid of the massive dead bug population.

One thing that can assist with bug splatter removal, but not near as effective as Saran Wrap, is Dupont Teflon Wheel Cleaner. Spay it on the front bumper and wipe with a soft cloth. It reduces the grip somewhat. I buy mine at Lowe's. I have not yet found it at an auto store. It is safe for clean coat and has not had any adverse effect on my paint.

yea the blue tapes are widely used among drivers, also works well on race track days.
but i always had a question. wouldn't that be a bit sticky after a hot day of 10 + driving and taking them off later?

how about a good wax around the bumper and put some plastic wraps... lol

might i recommend:

dupli-color temp spray on bra
u can get it at walmart/ auto zone, etc
works pretty well
spray it on, and when u need to remove it, wash it off with soap and water

well, I've gotten to NY, and have been here for a little while.

I loved the drive and had a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to the drive back. I'm wondering if any of you guys knew of anything that I should stop by on the way
