Increase in mileage

I've got a 2007 ASM 5AT, and I recently got my A1 service done.. Since then, I've filled my tank twice, and my mileage meter at the end of the tank shows 26 mpg mixed city/hwy driving.. prior to the oil change, it always showed 24 mpg.. did anybody else notice this?? Will this last?? (I'm NOT complaining, just hoping it continues!)

yea... your mileage improved because you changed your oil. Cleaner oil = happier engine = happier mileage

try taking a nice drive on the highway and you will be able to get 30+MPG. I do mostly highway driving(no racing and try to use cruise control) and I average 32-36MPG.

The oil change might have something to do with it. But i'm noticing the same increase in mileage (1-2 mpg)...with no recent oil change. Primary reason I believe is that the weather is getting warmer and b/c it's officially spring, so the gas stations are phasing out ethonol blends in the gasoline.

Ya, I agree, although we're stuck with the 10% ethanol scam (here in Mass. anyway where it's got nothing to do with the weather). Warmer weather and different gasoline blend probably likely responsible for any mileage increase (and the oil change thing is a myth; kind of like putting summer air in your tires).

Over 8 percent increase in mpg from an oil change? Pretty hard to believe.

I think fuel blend is more likely.

At current fuel prices (I'll assume 3.40/gallon), the OP would only save 87.18 every 8000 miles from the reduced fuel consumption (much less than I would have thought).

and what speed are you driving?

My commute changed to all highway and i was still only getting about 27-28 MPG but i was crusing at a minimum of 80 MPH, if not closer to 90 MPH. (NJ Turnpike is a nice straight road the the cops don't start until 7am and i have to be at work by 7am )

EDIT: But i start taking the civic tomorrow so we'll if that does any different.

the speed limit on highway 40 is 70-I set the cruise control on 75. The speed limit on highway 17 is 55 so I try not to go over 60. I travel the NJ turnpike from delaware north to exit 7-A. No matter what time I have traveled that I have seen at least 2 state troopers on the prowl. I will be driving that route sometime on Thursday.

I saw an increase in mileage at around 10K, it was just the engine finally breaking in.
