IIHS head restraint tests: TSX = POOR

IIHS tested a lot of cars' head restraints in their ability to prevent or reduce whiplash. The TSX did better than many by even being "testable", but it's rating is POOR. The Volvo's kicked butt, as did many Subarus and Saabs.

Report:
http://www.iihs.org/news_releases/2004/pr111404.htm

Results:
http://www.iihs.org/news_releases/2004/pr111404_1.pdf

So we have a "safe" car, but certainly not one of the "safest" cars.... (please note that the TSX still was rated slightly better than, say, a new ~$50k+ BMW 5 series).

I think most people dont even bother to adjust the headrests correctly anyway. Its more used by the driving enthusiat and lazy people who try to sleep while driving.

Price was not the deciding factor, or else a ~$50k+ BMW 5 would've been scored higher. A Kia Spectra scored higher than the TSX. And the BMW's.

Even the best designed headrest is absolutely useless if it's not adjusted correctly and whoever said people don't know how to use them is right.

Some people still don't use seat belts - do you think any of them ever touch the head rest after driving the car off the lot?

If people arent using seatbelts, then the head restraints are useless.
