How much is an HID bulb?

How much does an HID lowbeam bulb cost? Not a used one on ebay... from Acura dealership... approximate cost. Has anyone replaced one before? I heard they're expensive, but was wondering how expensive because I know I'll have to replace one sooner or later.

I can tell you exactly how much they cost.

for an Acura OEM HID (D2S) bulb, you're looking at:

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...%29_%28HID%29#
$149.62 plus shipping

per bulb.

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Philips_43.../pb-d2s-4k.htm

Pretty good deal at $70 per.

or if you wanted 6000k Philips Ultinon for $110:

check out http://www.ijdmtoy.com bro. they got some pretty good bulbs (made in japan, instead of germany, the 4300K in TSX was made in germany). i got a pair of 8000k for about $59 plus shipping,(shipping about couple bucks). Had them for almost a year now. The only thing is that they don't carry 4300K bulbs.

about the color

I was just wondering if this is true. I heard on other posts somewhere on some discussion post that the higher the temperature (in K, eg. 4000K), the more blueish/purplish the color becomes. Is this true. If so, does it mean that I can get 8000K and have a sweeter look than 4000K? Can someone list the common types of HIDs and their colors?

Natrually our projector gives out this really nice blue look, but this is with stock 4300k.

If you want the beam to look more blue get closer to 8000k but do know once you hit 8k or even 6k and over you lose alot of lumens and light output.

sorry, but you are completely wrong.
I have 8000k bulbs in mine, and there is not even a slight
hint of purple at all. none. just pure blue.

I suppose all companies could be different, but 8000k is in no way purple.
I have 8000k sides, halo kit, fogs and HIDs, also high beams, lol.
8000k all around, and nothing even closely resembles purple.

Some bulbs are more purple at 8000k and others are blue. *shrugs all i know is 10k and 12k are really blue and you can't see anything.

Correction, it's 12k that is purple, while 8k is blue (10k is a purple-blue).

I agree with you on the "can't see anything" part. Our stock 4300k bulbs are meant to be white and resemble "daylight conditions" very closely. The higher up you go in kelvins, the less total output/lumens you will get from your bulbs. So, from a safety perspective, I would stick with the OEM temp bulbs .

If one of the bulbs is not working, will it fire the second bulb like most car?

Hid need to be changed when they change colors so a normal stock bulb appears to be more pink.

Some people "say higher is brighter" but it only appears to be more reflective which isn't the best at night with some rain or snow.

i had installed HID's on my fog lights of my 09 tSx..i already had the kit , but the bulbs came as wrong size (they were "H1" i needed "H11") i had to buy just the two bulbs(H11) and pay installation.

he charged me only $100 ...Two new bulbs + installation= $100

What do you mean by 'it will fire the second bulb?'

Yea, I noticed that the HIDs are really cool, but they're not that bright even with the 4300K. I can see all around me nicely, but far ahead is not visible. I ran over a pallet on the freeway last month because I didn't see it until it was 15 feet in front of me. That sucked... blew a front tire and almost bent my rim.

this had happened to 2 of my cars. One toyota and one honda. When one bulb died, all the current went to the other bulb. The extra current overheated the wiring in the other bulb, and melted the wire and plug.

We recommend the KAIXEN D2C bulbs. KAIXEN actually offers a 5000k bulb which is closest to OE and these are $109 shipped for the pair.

If that was the case, they were using really crappy wiring and plugs. As a general rule, I'd always replace both lights when one blew just to keep the colors consistant. Otherwise you'd end up with one dim and one nice new bright headlight. That, and I had Silverstars in my last car and their lifespan was always very consistant. When one went, the other would go within a week, regardless of how long I waited to change the blown one. And it was cheaper to buy the two pack rather than 1 at a time ($20 a bulb vs $30 for the two pack.)

Buddy of mine had a bulb out in his Focus for 3 months before he finally got around to replacing it. No issues whatsoever.

I think it just depends on how the car's wired. Some cars have separate wiring for each bulb, some run them in parallel. My old car had separate fuses for each headlight. Someone with a good electricial schematic for the TSX might want to chime in here and tell us how they did it.

Just bought a pair of NEW, factory packaged bulbs on eBay for $90 - eBay's 10% off coupon. Total .... $81.00!

Also, the schematics for my '04 show two seperate fuses. One 15 amp for each headlight, and individual feed wiring.
