how much does it cost to maintain a tsx?

Hey guys.

I'm planning to buy a tsx in the next couple months, and was wondering is it expensive to maintain the car? Also how is insurance? I'm 20 yrs. old, I got one ticket but i took it off my record by going to traffic school. I was going to get a s2000 but changed my mind after my insurance told me it would 1,800$ for a 6months. I work part-time and go to school full-time thats i want a car that maintaince isn't so high. I understand it is a luxury car but I had a 01 ES300 before my current car and it wasn't so bad.

Thanks.

all you need is pretty much the oil change, and occasional carwash + details so maybe 500 a year. i pay 900 for 6 months insurance.

Are you planning on new or used? Are you planning on keeping the car 1-2 years or +4 years?

The sweet spot for the 04-08 TSX are the 06 Models. A lot of minor problems fixed, tons of aftermarket, no pesky TPMS (more aftermarket rim options), Hondata (04-06 Models), Bluetooth, faster Navi, memory seats, MID, more power, etc...

You will not gain much in a 07-08 model except for a higher car payment, TPMS, and maybe less mileage.

Other than oil changes, I haven't paid any extra cost in 20 months and +24,000 miles.

Insurance depends on gender, age, marital status, driving history, location, location, and location. You will not get a break in insurance cost until you get +25 years old. If you can piggy back off your parent’s insurance will save you some $$$$.

I think when it comes to cost of ownership (aside from insurance), the TSX has to be one of the best deals going. Rock solid reliability with an excellent track record, and very good MPG depending on how and where you drive. So from the mechanical side, you're in as good a hands as any car out there.

Insurance more depends on you and your stats. I pay about $480 for 6 months but I'm old and married.

i don't want payments so a new one is automaically out of the question. But maybe a 04 or 05 because 06 are too expensive. It seems that TSX's pretty much trouble free, like most hondas and acuras. I can't wait.

Thanks everyone.

Love my 06.

With the improvements on the 06, I think it is worth the extra $1500-$2000 for the 06 compared to the 05 models. I waited until the 06 models were released because of all the good inside information from this forum about all the new upgrades from the 05 models two years ago. If you have time to wait, the 06 prices should drop once the 09 TSX hit the showroom floor.

Unless your present car is about to die, I would save and wait for a 06 model.

A little bias showing here (and one man's opinion; but that's OK). I (we) have an 05 and an 07, and both generations are worth considering (again, one man's opinion; this one). The upgrades in the 06-08 models are nice, but certainly not worth ruling out an 05 if the right one came along (I'd avoid 04's at all cost though; too many first year issues). I drive the 05 and don't miss any of the extra stuff on the 07. Neither have navigation so that's not an issue, seat doesn't get moved so the memory seat is an answer to a question nobody asked, I have no use for the TPMS (welcome to the Nanny state)(that actually showed up in 07 I guess) so I'm actually glad the 05 doesn't have that, the 5 extra horsepower may be there, but you couldn't prove it by my seat of the pants, and I actually prefer the 04-05 looks to the changes in the exterior for the 06-08 models. Bottom line: If your wallet won't allow for anything newer than an 05, don't fret; find the best one you can and enjoy.
As for the original queries, maintenance costs are probably comparable to other cars in its' class, but without a direct comparison, it's kind of a tough question. The 05 calls for oil and filter every 10K miles, transmission fluid change at 60K I think, brake fluid every 2 years, coolant change in there somewhere, plus the usual minor check this and tighten that. You can actually do it all yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, and you want to. Like most Honda's, the TSX is fairly user friendly to work on (and you could certainly save some money that way). Insurance has way to many variables to answer a question like that here. Just call your insurance agent/company and ask.

My insurance went DOWN when I got my new TSX last weekend. Somehow a "good student discount" got put on there when I called after bringing it home from the dealer, which is applicable since I am in grad school part-time and maintaining a 4.0(sooo much different than UG!) I guess it's my fault for not asking about it sooner! But I'm told it goes away when my policy renews in June, but I will be 25 then, so it should go down for that.

TSX also got me a chunk($40ish I think) off for "vehicle safety rating" as well. The 98 Accord didn't get me that. The "anti-theft" discounts added up to about the same.

USAA lets me do quotes online(A straight up quote I think the TSX was about $75 more), make a lot of changes online w/o calling... and I get the best rate. I've done comparisions to Geico and progressive, can't touch them.

Can't wait to get out of that awful male 18-24 demographic living near a big city!

Speaking of insurance...how much do you guys pay for your TSX??? I just recently called my insurance company (progressive) to get quote on my soon to be new car. I was VERY surprised that the TSX is the highest!

These are 6 month quotes for leased cars.

2008 Acura TSX - $1213
2008 Audi A5 - $972
2008 BMW 325i Sedan - $1019
2008 MB C300 Sport - $1008

For comparison, I'm paying $753 for my 2005 Honda Civic EX SE.

I had this done last year as well but with a company called 21st Century.

2007 Acura TSX - $775
2007 Acura TL-S - $795
2007 Audi A4 - $795
2007 BMW 328i Coupe - $818
2007 BMW 328i Sedan - $795
2007 MB C280 - $841
2005 Honda Civic - $804

Actually I got the 05 when I realized they were going to change the looks with the 06.

The 05 has those beautiful hood creases and the fog lights look better in my opinion as well. The 04~05 has a more aggressive look to it. More european. 06+ is tame. Looks like a people hauler. Not a sports sedan.

The bluetooth-telephone thingy? Yeah, have that pop up while you are driving with other ppl and it can get awkward in a second.

My sis has the latest greatest RX with all options and doesn't use the bluetooth, just her trusty ear piece.

Navi is a bit better on the 06+ though. But except for that. My 05 all the way.
