How much better can it get?

Made another of my frequent trips from LA to Sacramento. I do that atleast once everyweek, since i have promised my buddies, to come see them once every three weeks....have been upto it since past 6 months, only with my TSX...

Well, the total distance is 422 miles as per the navi...
For the first 300 miles i got 29 mpg on the trip computer, and i topped up the tank and got 32 mpg for the last 120 miles. I have the pics of the trip computer, will post later....both times averaging at 79 MPH
While on my way back i got 30 miles for the first 325 miles and then 35 for the next 95 miles. 35 was coz i was coming downhill....averaging at 82 MPH

All said, do you guys think, i could have reached 500 mpg had i started with a full tank..

Also my trip computer shows a diff of 0.8-1.3 mpg when compared to the gas milage calcuated on the calculator based on the tank top up and miles driven.....
pls suggest

M very impressed with the awesome gas milage at such a high MPH, simply love it....

If you keep it under 70mph you will pass 500 miles/tank very very easily. At 80mph, I'm not sure that is possible as there's just too much drag once you pass 70mph.

You can get close to 600 miles/tank if you cruise at 55mph, but I don't think that's too realistic.

Impossible

The TSX has a 17.1 gal tank. To give yourself a 1 gallon margin of safety you would need to go 500miles on 16.1gallons which means averaging 31.06mpg for your trip. Easily doable IMHO.

How far does everyone push the "empty" tank? I know when my tank says it's got a range of zero miles, it's probably got another 2 gallons in there, because I'll fill it up and only see 14.5 gallons needed to fill it. I keep saying I'll try to push it so that I can join the 400 mile club (I average 32 MPG on the highway), but I keep wimping out when my range says Zero Miles to Empty.

You can safely bet that you can go an extra 40miles with the indicator showing 0.

But why stop at 40?

While it's winter and still not too warm, put a gallon of gas in your trunk and don't fill up until your car runs out. This is generally not recommended, but the experience is well worth it!

You'll reach 500.

you have the 2006 tsx? i wonder if the trip computer difference in calculation is tied to the problem that they just mailed us all about with the mileage/odometer being wrong

I just drove on local surface streets 3 miles after filling up the car (only 1 street light, typically 35 or 45 mph zones), and trip computer says 37 mpg. Of course, that's really too small of a sample, but a good sign nonetheless...
