Sure it seems to give you the best of both worlds but after the newness factor wears off do you use the Sportronic shifting very often?

I use it almost every time I drive the car, because I have a bunch of rather steep hills I gotta drive over to get to work, etc. Using the manual shift option to keep the car in a lower gear going uphill really makes a difference.

About 98 percent of the time. About the only time I don't use it is when I am in a crowded parking lot or when I need both hands for some other use.

IMO, it is truely the best of both worlds. Wouldn't want another car without it.

After couple of misshift, i stop using it. It is kind of scary when you want to move from 2 to 3 by moving down.

I only use it on twisty bits, or when driving fast when late for a soccer game.

I drove to Bend the other day, and used it so much (3.5-hr drive, used it for like 2.5 hours straight each way) that I was trying to shift the rest of the time.... : )

I use it almost everyday. I love using it to merge on the freeway. It's a great feature

The only thing i hate is one time I actually hit up on the shifter thinking I was in SS, when I wasn't. The result was shifting to neutral

It is if you ever played driving games at the fricking arcade... Honda has it totally backwards.

Doesn't take a clutch to hit the wrong gear...

I'm mostly doing city driving in a flat area, so don't see much need.

When I'm driving in hilly areas it's very useful to keep the car in the gear I want. I'll use it both to keep the car from jumping between gears a lot on a longer uphill, and also to keep it in a lower gear when going downhill rather than riding the brakes.

I figure...if you can't manage to drive a sport shift, you shouldn't be in control of a 3000 lb vehicle. lol. It's really not hard. And the computer will never let you shift into a "misshift"

On a 6-speed though...you're on your own!

The computer will not let you downshift only if it redlines it..... otherwise, you can downshift whenever you want....as long as it doesn'y hit 7k rpm.....

I rarely use it tho.... since I haven't really break in my car yet....hahah...
I only use it sometimes when I feel bored.... or when i want to hit 4k rpm..... it is recommended for break in once in a while..... but some of my friends say SS is stupid!!!

99.9%. I don`t use it when i`m on the phone cuz i cant shift. The reason why I use it so much is because I have an intake, I can control the sound of tht intake with the amount of acceleration. Its gotten to a point where in regular AT mode the car doesnt respond well.

24-7....Stoped for a while when I got the new Tranny, then talked to acura and Confermed that my shifting did not lead to the Tranny failure

one reason I dont use it - still not have as much confidence with Honda AT than with the car as a whole - I just let the AT do its job the "old fashioned way"

the only time i might not use it is when it's on cruise control for longer drives (45+ mins). there's nothing like high-revving on demand. well, almost on demand.

I use it for 'fun' driving, especially in the mountains on twisty roads. But I also like to use it in bad weather (snow) because the AT shifts into high gear too soon and engine braking is much easier using SS. It sure is great having SS - it's my first car that has it and won't be my last.

Hmm...I was waiting for a MT Snob, (ech, sorry but I would of loved a MT), Tiptronics not bad, unfortinutly it still uses a torque converter, if it was a clutch SMG style that would be so hot...lol... If u know how to drive a stick (or at least can play Gran Turismo so u know where to shift) you really should not be able to misshift an Automatic Transmission... just like a stick, u dont shift into first gear unless ur pritty much stoped allready... and just make sure are in triptronic mode, and dont shift the car from D to N....

I also Defenutly agree that the cars Slower in Fully automatic mode then tiptronic

oh and Dzuy...how about once I get my next car w/ my 5MT... a little race...

Few people were sayin how you can't mis-shift the SS, but the post above is talking about having the stick to the right in Auto and trying to upshift and hitting neutral. Never happened to me but could easily understand how that cud happen.

Also, I tend to agree that it is somewhat un-intuitive to up-shift the same direction with the stick all the time and tho I never thought about it, I also think it would be more intuitive to shift it "Back" in order to upshift and forward to downshift, but no biggie once you get used to it.

To the orig question:
On a 99 TL I've driven often I thought the sportshift was a total waste and just silly.
On my TSX over the past 3 weeks, I probably use SS more than 50% of the time, and using it more often DOES highlight the lag when using regular Auto. Then again having this TSX also really magnifies the drivability of other vehicles I drive, so its all relative!

Haven't really used it because I'm still in the breakin period. I'll most likely use it sometimes for the fun factor.

Its nowhere near that long. According to acura's specs its 0.7 seconds. Although it is definently slower from 1st to 2nd its nowhere near 1.5 seconds.

Yup...Theres no problem w/ that, It was designed w/ that In mind...

I think I should Explain how the SS Mode attcually works... Its pritty much the same Idea as an Automatic Transmission, just the computer allows for you to shift, rather then doing it on its own, Pritty much the Torque converter fills up to a certin level w/ Fluid, and thats each gear, the more flud the more pressure against it, thus a higher gear, simply you decide im gonna make the tranny inject some more fluid, or im gonna make it remove some, something the car would do on its own anyway, this of course dosent work as well as a Clutch and actual gears, so you do lose power, and it is not nearly as fast as a Standard Shift Transmission
