From the survey I received from Acura...

How interested would you be if the navigation system display could present your favorite sports teams’ scores, favorite stock prices, and top news headlines?

 

That would be sweet, although distracting. You would need to tie it into the wireless networks (t-mobile, verizon).

The poll on the Owners link ask whether I care that the glass says Honda on the TSX. It could say Yugo on it as long as it doesnt rattle.

 

I think the weather forecast would be cool. Another cool feature, the ability to record XM radio songs for later playback.

that definitly wont happen. Xm is in a big uproar cause some shmuck programmed some software to record songs that hooks to his xm computer somthing or other.

 

I'd love to be able to get a weather map on that thing...that would be awesome.

 

Micah476: Have you been to the XM site at all and looked at their weather option. It will even give you Doppler maps right on your nav. Not sure what the cost of the external box is, but it looks friggin cool.

 

My car already has a weather station: when the wipers are on, it's raining.

 

Wow, those Canadian models are so much cooler then the US models...

 

Yeah, we did this in 98/99, but no one wants to pay for the service...bundled with XM would be cool.

 

Frickin' CRTC. We can't even get XM up here PERIOD!

 

I don't see how this could be a good thing. Folks with their cellphones are already pretty much distracted and dangerous, imagine if we have to add another visual distraction. It would be byond saturation IMO.

Anyways, if you want weather and news, you just have to tune your radio and voila.

 

Most of this would be interesting to me and a real value add to my navigation. The local weather, being able to see a line of showers for example, would be useful. Showing the location of accidents and slow downs were other features shown (I understand the new RL has this feature for 20 markets). How this was displayed would have a major impact on how useful it would be. If the screen got to be as cluttered as CNN or Fox it would be nearly useless and dangerously distracting. Surely greater minds will consider all this.

I was most troubled by the idea that your car could share information with your insurance company -- for a discount on your rates was how it was couched. I don't drive "like I stole it" ($28k is a lot of money to me) but I do exceed the speed limit when I deem it safe and appropriate. I would hate to recieve a note from my insurer dunning me for "excessive speed" based on posted limits.

 

Just yesterday I drove to Orlando from tampa listening to my school (Iowa) play Wisconson on XM (I have a XM Commander in my Jeep). They have 4 Big Ten Channels, 4 pac ten channels and so on. You can scroll through all the channels and the display shows all the scores of all the games. I am sure that the 2005 TSX with XM and Navi would have the scores for the games. The Navi in the TSX shows four lines of text for the XM. The Commander only has 2. XM keeps adding neat features and channels all the time. I heard an ad on XM for a new XM radio that you can replay selected songs. The Commander will tell you when a song you have selected comes on any channel (I love that feature and I will miss it with the TSX).

 

Have some sort of small hard drive to hold songs for later listening.

That would be awesome. Even if it was nothing fancy, but as simple as a scrolling ticker with sports scores, weather, etc. That would be awesome. Of course I'm sure it could be distracting but cool nonetheless.
