Exclamation How do I remove the Ballast from the headlights?

I can't seem to remove the ballast from the headlights.

Do I have to take the entire headlight apart to get this silver metal piece out?

I've just been janking this thing around in there.. it won't come out...

My headlight with problem

Somebody successfully removed theirs on this one. There's no sign of him/her taking the entire headlight apart though.. there's gotta be a way.

Yes, its easy to do, but first... that's not the ballast. The ballast is the metal part that connects to the bottom of the plastic housing to ignite the HID bulb. It is in neither of the pictures. I believe what you are talking about is the shield for the projector lense, and below that, the projector lense itself. It is a 2 piece assembly.

Look for 3 philips screws (looks like they are already gone) and remove them. Pull the shield upwards and rotate it about 45 degrees clockwise, and rotate the left side of it towards you as well, so you are turning it sideways also. So, rotating on 2 axis.

Try to get the bottom left corner tab of metal on the shield by the notch out of the plastic at the 10 o'clock position. Use a screwdriver or something similar (stiff and small) to pry (pop!) it out. Rotate the shield slightly counter clockwise then to pop out the other tab from that side. Once you've got those 2 tabs out, you can easily turn it completely sideways and slide it out.

Then, the projector can be carefully removed. Lift it out of its recessed housing straight up, turn sideways while still inside the plastic headlight housing, and it will slide out easily.

This can be a pain to do the first time, but once you've done one, you'll understand the process better. Good luck.

Reach, I just wanted to thank you for this post. I was actually dreading this part, but with the help of this post, I was able to get the shield for the projector lens out of the housing in like 10 minutes. You might want to add this post to the DIY.

I ended up having to get longer screws to mount it in the JDM housing, but everything was fine!

Not DIY necessary, that's what the search function is for. Glad you found it.
