Horsepower ??

I just bought a TSX automatic about 2 weeks. It about 500 miles now.

I see the car is doesn't have much power especially at the low end. How about the all of the others TSX owner?

Did you see a big performance improve after the car break in?

Beside the gas milage is around 23 - 24, but I expect 27 or more coz I drive on freeway in most of the time.

Thank you for your help

Re: Horsepower ??

You mean torque? It doesn't accelerate like a small coupe with a turbo, right?

I found it does change a little for the better after break-in. But it's nothing huge. Mine has 10100 miles.

if you bought the car for some power, you made a big mistake

Well if you are redlining it before its broken in The car does lack lowend torque, you probably should have known his from test driving, what it loses in the low end it makes up for up high. But I wouldn't go trying it out before breakin.

Most of the power is above 3K rpm. I got over 30mpg my last tank of mostly freeway driving, and that's with 6MT. You should get better with 5AT. I did notice better mileage after my first oil change at 5K.

what should he have bought then? a stripped down, no options 325?
sounds like you didn't test drive the car before you bought it.

325 and TSX are nearly identical in acceleration numbers, but the 325 has more power down low which will help with day to day driving. But "all out" you wont notice a difference.

Eventhough there are times I disagree with this dude. This time I have to give it to him. The TSX is NOT for speed. If you want speed. Get a SRT-4. Don't you know??? It's the world's fastest car!!!!

for speed i say go for an evoV///.. or better yet wait for the evo MR to hit the states.. that car is insane..

however, back to topic.. the tsx is still a fast car IMO.. any car that can get to 60mph before the 8-9 sec. range is pretty quick. besides, whats 3-4 seconds gonna do for ya?

thanks for all you opinion.

I am happy on the high end. but I just avoid the high end until the cars runs above 1000 miles.

So.. How would you improve the low end torque? add intake?
wait for the supercharger?

constructive advice is always welcome. Thanks

For those of you who may have forgotten, the TSX actually has more power than the 325.

The cold air intake (and SRI) causes a slight loss in low end torque for substantial high end gains. This is because it lacks a box full of air to push into the engine like the stock resonator. So probably not what you're looking for, better suggestion, don't drag off the line, drop into a low gear and get the RPMs up and you should be good.

but it doesnt show in the performance... so it means absolutely nothing. a AT 325 is FASTEr than a AT TSX, manual 325i's 0-60 are in high 6's as well..so the percieved power doesnt translate to real world application..which makes it totally pointless. if a car had 300hp but was as slow as an echo, does it mean anything that it has 300hp?

I've never heard of a stock MT running high 6's. Got a link? All mag times have been 7's. Which is right around the TSX 0-60. There is no doubt that the 325 has a performance advantage, but its not a big one. There will be no "silver platter".

Agreed. It MIGHT be possible to get a 325 into the 6s with a high RPM clutch drop and power shifting (the advantage would be just as great with the TSX run this way). In the end stock for stock the 325 and TSX are a drivers race, no silver platter, paper plate at best and could go either way. The only place a metal platter (silver plated MAYBE) would be on a road track, the 325's brakes alone would produce some significant differences in lap times. If you spent 5-7K in mods on both they would probably be equal on the road course since both would see modest increases in power but the TSX would benefit more than the BMW in braking and handling (because it has farther to go) and the 325 would still not have enough HP to exploit its RWD to potential.

All in all I don't really understand all the apparent desperation over cross shopping the 325 and TSX, although they are in similar classes (arguably the same class), they have very different characters, one is a sporty well optioned FWD with great reliability and the other has fewer options (at the same price) but has more sport built in and has about the best sedan reliability from a German make (which still misses the Acura mark). Although it is great fodder for pi$$ing matches in the end a person can usually make the decision in a single drive of each.
