Hitting 100k next week...what kind of maintenance do I need?

Hey All,

My 04 ABP is rolling 100k next week and is running great so far (knock on wood). I wanted to get the car maintenanced but didn't really want to take it to the stealership as they wanted something like $1800 to do the 100k maintenance the to replace the brakes and resurface the rotors.

I plan on changing out the brakes and rotors myself, but what other things do I need to do? I checked the maintenance section of the forum but it only lists up to 80k. I am figuring the spark plugs need to be changed and the transmission fluid need to be flushed (did it at 50k)....anything else?

Anyone know a good shop in Queens, NY or western Long Island that won't rip me off?

You don't have your manual?

I do have the manual, except this board gives a more realistic maintenance schedule.

If no one has any other input then I'll just go with what is listed in the manual.

At 100k, oil/filter change if needed. Transmission flush (50k is about right there.) If you haven't done it yet, coolant flush. New plugs. Check your accessory belts. I'm sure there's probably more, but that hits the important stuff. $1800 is pretty steep for something like that.

probably want to change spark plugs too, although they're "supposed to" last forever.

so here's run down for you.

oil change
air filter
cabin filter
check timing belt
transmission fluid change
check brake, brake fluid - resurface rotor if necessary
change coolant - if you haven't already

hm that's all I can think of right now, rotate tires if you want to

Let me just say this.

By the way you are typing, I'm under the impression you haven't had regular scheduled maintenance services. If you did, you would probably just be following the maintenance minder.

Therefore if you haven't, don't be surprised if you legitimately have to pay up for some kind of service if you really want everything done. If you have had much or anything done, be prepared to have things that needs to be changed, replaced, fixed, etc.

If you do have regular maintenance, then just disregard what I said, and follow the minder in the MID.

If it's my car, I would..

1. replace all fluid (oil, tranny, clutch, brake, coolant, power steering)
2. replace filters where applicable (oil, air, cabin)
3. replace drive belt if necessary
4. check brake pads and replace if necessary.
5. resurface or replace rotors if replacing pads
6. check parking brake and adjust if necessary
7. replace spark plugs
8. adjust valves
9. replace radiator hoses if necessary
10. check suspension
11. check under carriage for other worn out items such as exhaust hangers or loose heatshields. etc.
12. rotate and balance wheels
13. check alignment if necessary
14. wash and wax the car
15. done

Hey JTso, do you know if anything needs to be done or replaced to the auto tensioner when it's time to change the drive belt?

You shouldn't have to do anything to the auto tensioner unless it's making noise or it's not able to provide the proper belt tension. I think poltergeist might be able to provide some shop experience on how often the tensioner needs replacement

Thanks for all the input guys.

Just as an FYI, I have been changing my oil and all other services at the stealership at regular intervals. The only thing that I haven't done that was recommended was the coolant flush which they only recommended at 90k(May 2008). I was planning to do that at 100k with the tuneup so I held off.

You can wait till 100K to do the coolant flush.

100K...full check point (air filters, plugs, cables, tranny etc..) The whole Kaboodle!!! The manual mentions "it's recommended to bring it to a local dealership" ha!!! ...or how about this one: "For best results" - another industry clammer...I say use your best judgment - Cognita tute!!! so you can save and always learn!!!

PACman:

Besides the fuel filter lasting life of car, does this also apply to fuel pump? Is the fuel pump something that should last life of car?

I haven't really heard of any members on this TSX board complaining about a bad fuel pump on their TSX. Have you?

Those Acura fuel pumps are incredible. I used to have a first generation Acura Integra. Drove it for 17 years and 200,000 miles. The fuel pump never leaked or failed. Again, just INCREDIBLE.
