Hit by a drive away....
I have never had this happen to me personally, but have heard of it happening. Never did I dream of the day it would happen to me. I parked yesterday and came back out not 10 minutes later to find a dent in my trunk. I thought it could be tapped out. Well it turns out it is right at $1,000+ to have it all fixed.
It doesn't look all that bad really, but there is more damage to the bottom of the trunk. I just can't believe it will cost that much. I don't want to turn it in to my insurance because then it will show up on Carfax.
Sigh.....

son of a bitch...that really sucks. Looks to me like a truck backed into you probably comming out of a spot. Sorry for your troubles.
I don't think that carfax posts things unless the title is salvaged or if the odometer is messed with. Things like that are really the fraud that people are wanting to avoid. Besides if you save all records you can easily show prospective buyers it is body damage and nothing that will affect the cars engine.

Yeah, it won't show up on carfax. But that really suckin' fucks! I hate it when people don't take responsibility for their actions. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone will lightly hit your trunk lid and they'll have to pay for it. Of if your luck is like mine, that will happen AFTER you get it fixed.
Look on ebay. Maybe you'll find a trunk lid really cheap that's the same color.
And where do you live to have such a fruity license plate. No offense.

I would really call around and see if a Paintless Dent Repair guy can help you out. Be sure to tell them where it is at, because the location of the dent is accessible by their tools. They would just pull off the lining and work it form the inside. Anything is better than bondo. My friend who does PDR has repaired dents far worse than that!

Same thing happend to my can, but they didnt hit the trunk. They pushed in the bumper, made some scratches to left side tail light and by the Acura badge. Cost 4K+. I know how it feels man, it sucks. Hope everything works out for you. Make sure to check for hidden damages.

If you have comprehensive insurance, it may cover the damage. That is how I am getting some rock damage fixed on the front bumper of my car. My fog was completely taken out, along with a gouge out of the bumper. $600 damage...no comprehensive deductible...same thing as if a tree limb fell on the car, or something else that is out of your control. They may consider yours under "collision" however, which you may have a deductible.

I know this sounds bad, but I thought about waiting for some jack ass to ride my bumper to closely and then slam on my brakes and make them rear end me and have them pay for it. That would be unethical and it could injure me so I am not going to do that. I really think that I am just going to go my last year at school without fixing it and wait until I graduate in May to have it fixed. People at school are careless, and I would hate to get it fixed and then someone else do the same thing.

This is a no brainer to me IF you have a deductible that's $500 or less. File a claim with your insurance company, that's why you have insurance. If they classify it as a "hit and run" you are not at fault and your rates shouldn't increase. It might depend on the # of other claims you've made, if any.
I don't see how this would show up in Carfax. At the least you can call your insurance company and ask them a few questions, then decide what to do. They won't force you to let them fix your car. If you want to eat it, then they should be fine with that. Having just had my trunk and bumper recently replaced after I was rear ended, and repainted twice, it will surely cost more than $1K. Good luck!
