highway MPG, etc

Drove 400 miles (one way) this past weekend and just calculated my TSX 6sp MPG. I was a little anxious to see the results because I kinda have a lead foot and I was driving on the interstate in moderate traffic, therefore changing speed frequently. I probably averaged 75-78 mph (typical cruise setting when I could use it) and was also running the a/c. The result was right at 30mpg! I was very pleased. (FYI, just one passenger and half filled trunk)

Also noticed a good way for passenger to read at night without
much of a light distraction for the driver. With the passenger reading/map lamp on, lower the sunglasses holder down and it will block the brightest part of passengers reading light for the driver!

Last trip I went on I got 31.5mpg and I only had 1500 miles on the car- I was quite pleased.

Nice tip.. Will have to keep that in mind. I'm still waiting to hit 30 mpg. Highest I've ever gotten was 27.5.

I have been getting 27.9 mpg consistently by manual calculation. That's with an equal mix of highway and city driving. Then 2 days ago, I went on a little day trip and drove about 100 miles each way. At one point, the trip computer showed the mpg to be 35-7 mpg! Now, given that usually the trip computer is about 1.5-2.0 mpg over the actual manual calculation, the real mpg was probably about 33-35 mpg! It goes without saying that I was very pleased with it, especially with the recent gas prices...

I just recently drove nearly 600 miles over Memorial Day weekend...after I filled up at the start of my trip, the trip computer was showing an average of 43.2 MPG and I have the picture to prove it! I was blown away! I'll see if I can't post the picture (it's taken on my cell phone and I don't know how to send it to my computer).

Of course, keep in mind I was going 60 MPH, no A/C, and a very slight wind at my back. The sunroof was open probably causing some drag, but 43.2 MPG? It just kept going higher and higher...stayed that way for the first 100 miles until I pulled over at a rest stop...then it went down slightly.

I have definitely experienced better MPG as I put more miles on the car (I'm at 25,900 miles now), heard that once the car is about a year old (mine's 11 months now), the car gets better milage.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

pdjjr78, you have an AT I assume to get that sort of mileage? But anyways, that is an awesome mileage, I don't recall having seen this sort of mileage here. You say it was so for the first 100 miles, then it went down. Did you get a total for the complete gas tank?

yes it is automatic. as for mileage after the rest stop, I think it went down to about 39...and then after arriving in a stop and go city, it went down much faster after that...

think the final average was around 36 maybe? All I know is that I went 586 miles on one tank...and probably could've easily gone over 600 if I didn't get so nervous about the low fuel light!

Still, with gas prices like this I have been driving very conservatively and the TSX doesn't disappoint! I love bragging about my mileage...

that is actually quite amazing.

the most i averages was in the high 27's, although i do a lot of city driving, i get dissappointed each time i manually calculate the average miles per gallon.

i think my overall average is in between 24 and 26, anyways, i love my tsx, heh.

mine is usually 27-33. I get a smile on my face when I hear of someone with a truck stating there's less than half.

I have seen as high as 37 and change (mostly highway)

I went on a road trip this weekend to Hearst Castle from San Francisco - about 250 miles each way and the trip computer showed an average of 29.5 mpg. I've had my car for almost a year now (7,500 miles on it so far), and this is the highest I've seen it. Have people found the trip computer mpg and range calculations to be accurate?

I have averaged around 30 MPG since I got the car, with about 60/40 highway/city driving. I redline about once a day too. Perhaps we should start listing some variables that might affect our mpg, to maybe nail down trends? Like this:

My average Mileage: 30 mpg
Transmission: 6MT
Highway/city mix: 60/40
Brand of gas used: Hess Premium
Oil: Castrol Syntec 5w30
Tire pressure: 35 psi all around
Air filter: OEM
CAI: None
Odometer: 9500+ miles

I redline when merging into traffic on the highway so that's at least twice aday if not more. Highway in the Boston area often times means speeds as fast as 80mph (rt 495) or crawling at 30mph (rt 3) but on the good days I average about 75mph. With the warmer spring weather I've been averaging over 32 mpg with my leadfooted driving and half 93 & 89 octane gas. I run it in 6th gear at 35-40mph on the back roads I sometimes take when the highways are too congested which helps my mileage. The engine doesn't bog at all unless I try to climb a fairly steep hill. My next oil change I plan to go to Mobil1 5/30 around 6K miles which should help my mileage. I haven't taken it on an all highway trip recently and forsee even higher numbers once I do a tank without the stop and go that's normally part of my daily commute.

My average Mileage: 32+ mpg
Transmission: 6MT
Highway/city mix: 60/40
Brand of gas used: Gulf 93 + 89
Oil: Original 5w30 + oem filter
Tire pressure: 35 psi all around
Air filter: K&N & Tornado
CAI: None
Odometer: 5500+ miles
