Angry Hawaii Prices are crazy!!!

Hey everyone i live in hawaii and the only acura dealer we have down here is Phfluger Acura and their prices are crazy I got a Tsx in june and its W/out the Nav they sell it for 30 grand if i went to the mainland i could have got a Nav system. My mom was thinking about getting a 04 Mdx and the base model is 40 grand . We could get a lexus Rx330 cheaper down here and the Lexus and Infiniti stores put Acura to shame it looks like it could be a saturn dealership from the outside. The service here is horrible the people are nice but they really need to spend a day at Lexus and see how to have better service. But we have to live with it because theirs only 1 Acura Dealership here.I should open up another Acura down here I would have good buisness there are alot of Acura's in Hawaii.

Welcome, 808! (Interesting name, makes us think. Hmmmmm...... Is that the area code in Hawaii or something like that? )

Until last year I lived in Manhattan (New York City), and, would you believe, at the time there were NO Acura dealers in Manhattan, and no authorized Acura service places! That almost caused me not to get an Acura . (And indirectly -- very indirectly -- that was related to my moving to Larchmont.)

Sorry it's so hard there. Obviously you loved Acura and the TSX to have gotten the car despite the high price and bad service experience. Hard to understand about the service -- not just the fact that it's been disappointing, but exactly what you mean -- the people are nice, but...... Do you mean they don't seem competent? As you probably know, in general people's experience with Acura service has been extremely favorable and it's often cited as a reason for going with an Acura, although a few people on this site have talked about disappointing service.

I'm pretty sure that Colin, one of our great members on this board, is a dealer in Hawaii, and I guess he must be at that dealership? Maybe he can help out on here too.

Yeah, just like EVERYTHING else in Hawaii....way too expensive.
I lived there 4 years and couldnt wait to leave. the fact they dont like white people (Howlie) made my decision to leave even easier.

Is there any way you could relocate to the mainland?

Hi Larch,
A howlie in general, is someone who is white and from the mainland...an outsider if you will.

Tourists usually never experience this hate because they are only there for short periods.

Just try to surf the north shore over there and see how your treated....

I truly feel they resent being a state. I have known people to live there for over 10 years and are still considered outsiders....
Whatever

hawaii

I'll have to ask a friend of mine [who married a native hawaiin] if she's experienced any resentment. I think she's been down there for 2-3 years now.

googled this up: http://2miles.net/Shaman/Writings/A%...n%20Hawaii.htm

1/2way down.

Howlie is a mythical creature that has no soul. White people are howlies or if they have lived on the island a long time they may be granted the status of hapa howlie or half howlie

Does that mean if you're African-American, you're an anti-howlie?

I mean, if they wanna be consistent about it, blacks should be king over there.

Wow, with that much of a markup, it might be worth it to buy it on the mainland somewhere and have it shipped privately.

That is quite a mark up and I wouldn't get a TSX at $30k, a Lexus or Infiniti would be a better buy. I dunno about Hawaii, but I heard things there cost slightly more than here on the mainland.

My friend is in the armed forces. He is stationed in Ouahu, Hawaii. He came to visit me (I thought). Told me how expensive the Acuras were. Then he saw and drove mine, fell in love with it and bought one here. 29.5k out the door. He had it shiped to Hawaii for $600.00.

Did he have to pay taxes on it when he got to Hawaii?

Well, first off, everything in Hawaii costs more. This includes the land a store sits on. This will natually affect the price of doing business. Before everyone goes down the "only one Acura store and they can do anything they want road....." Please keep in mind that here in Honolulu there is only one Lexus, one BMW, one Mecerdes, one Volvo, one Infiniti, one Saab, one Jaguar, one Audi AND only one Acura store.

808, I don't know who you are, but did you browse the boards here before making your purchase? Did you submit a request for information through Acura.com or Edmunds.com? If you did, it is likely I replied to your request. If so, did you reply to my note? I wish we had met sooner, I have not sold any of my clients their TSXs at full retail (MSRP + $3995) ....EVER.

The unfortunate facts are that we are allocated around 12-14 TSXs per month, and they are all sold out before they arrive. Many of them sell around the price you've paid and we still sell 10-11 before they arrive, and the rest of them sell in a few days. We are then out of cars for 25 days.

I believe that when he tries to register the car, they will collect the sales tax unless it't old enough to qualify as a used car. Also, unless your friend got a military discount, shipping costs are roughly 850+ and Matson just announced they are raising rates again.

Finally, it's not Howlie! Phonetically that is how it's pronounced, but the correct spelling is Haole. Ironically, the incorrect spelling and usage would only make a "local" shake his head and say "see why we hate Haoles?"

Well I was stationed in hawaii for over 5 years (army), I Do not think there prices are overpriced, i bought a 2003 Acura RSX-S for 600 over invoice which aint bad,

4 months later i traded in for the new TSX, both times I went to Colin for the sale, i got the TSX/6Mt/Navi for 30.2k out the door, thats all taxes and fees. That price is definitely reasonable especailly i am here on the mainland now in louisiana and prices here are the same, If you deal with Colin he wont jack you around like some dealers i met before i met him, when i first looked at my rsx guy told me 28K for type-S think about it lol.

And the thing was hawaii dont get navigation cars at all since it dont work, colin went through 2 months of hell Getting me a 6mt/ with navigation overthere to hawaii and aint cost nothing extra.
