AT and Hand-brake
Re AT,
When parking do you guys always apply hand-brake first then shift and do the reverse when moving out.
I park on slopes a lot I apply HB then shift into N, wait a sec (to let the HB catch the weight of the car) then shift into P.

Yup, you got the right Idea man, I do this everywhere, parking lots, my garage, its just a good habit to have, My Friends old subbie just went through a fence because he dosent do this. Pin on the tranny finally gave way (cars like 20 years old, beat to hell) and it rolled backwards down a hill and through a fence

When stopping, I shift into P, then apply HB.
When leaving, the sequence varies -- irrelevant if it's a hill or not, since my foot is always at the brakes at that time.

Hey what's the normal lifespan of handbrakes? What do you do when the HB becomes too loose? Replace the braking component or adjust the pulleys underneathe? Thanks.

Gilbo is just wrong in this instance, sure MTs are generally faster than ATs but it has nothing to do with the efficiency of the tranny. Most ATs are within 5 percent effecienty of their MT counterparts with high end ATs like dsg being even better. The real difference is gear ratios. If you made a tsx 6spd at with ratios similar to the MT you could have a car that is nearly identical speed wise. Gilbo just likes to troll

with the brake pushed down firmly, i put the car in park and then pull the handbrake. then of course, i let release the brake pedal. though i've never felt any rocking when i do that, i would image there's not a big difference whether the gear is changed before/after the hb is applied so long as the brake pedal is being pushed down firmly throughout the process.
