AT and Hand-brake
AT and Hand-brake
Re AT,
When parking do you guys always apply hand-brake first then shift and do the reverse when moving out.
I park on slopes a lot I apply HB then shift into N, wait a sec (to let the HB catch the weight of the car) then shift into P.

Yup, you got the right Idea man, I do this everywhere, parking lots, my garage, its just a good habit to have, My Friends old subbie just went through a fence because he dosent do this. Pin on the tranny finally gave way (cars like 20 years old, beat to hell) and it rolled backwards down a hill and through a fence
So get into this habit lol,

I'll spell it out for you. Let's say MT suffers 10% driveline losses and AT 15%. If the "LITTLE torque" car has 200HP, the MT puts 180HP to the ground. The AT, 170HP. Difference = 10HP.
Let's say the big, muscular, manly, RWD, high-torque car puts down 600HP. The MT version puts 540HP to the ground. The AT version would put 510. Difference = 30HP.

Try this:
When you park on an incline, put the car in park, then the hand brake, and then take your foot off the brake. You will notice that you rock back a little.
If you do it this way, hand brake, put the car in park, then take your foot of the brake pedal, you should not notice any rocking.

No, I'm sorry. 30 > 10. The difference is BIGGER. Thanks for playing!

If we do a recall, maybe we'll end up banning Gary Coleman or something...

But then again, it's just an impression I have, I may be way off, I just don't have one at hand right now to get the numbers down...

Gilbo is just wrong in this instance, sure MTs are generally faster than ATs but it has nothing to do with the efficiency of the tranny. Most ATs are within 5 percent effecienty of their MT counterparts with high end ATs like dsg being even better. The real difference is gear ratios. If you made a tsx 6spd at with ratios similar to the MT you could have a car that is nearly identical speed wise. Gilbo just likes to troll

with the brake pushed down firmly, i put the car in park and then pull the handbrake. then of course, i let release the brake pedal. though i've never felt any rocking when i do that, i would image there's not a big difference whether the gear is changed before/after the hb is applied so long as the brake pedal is being pushed down firmly throughout the process.

MT driver...

hehe. ok i'll stop bashing you slow AT.
