glovebox light

i am trying to replace my glovebox light with LED but have problem removing the "cover", anyone knows how? it seems the white piece is stuck to the black part.

note: i can detach it from the glovebox but need to take it apart in order to take the bulb out.

I was trying to do this yesterday and got fed up and left it. It feels like it can come out, but I don't think it wants to...

Just a WAG ... would an aftermarket light bulb site maybe have instructions?

With the translucent cover, an LED isn't strong enough for it (I did it an couldn't tell). I'll have to recheck, but I thought I just dropped the glove box and pushed the light out.

I remember that part. Now I just need to remember how I got it out.

there's an small insert area, use a small flathead to pop it off (takes a little bit of force)
the bulb is size 194 i believe.

I switched mine to LED, but I still can't really tell. like moda_way said..

If it's like the TL, there are actually 3 peices:

- The Wire/Bulb Socket

- The Black bulb housing

- The White Diffuser

To get to the bulb (after getting the whole assembly popped out of the glove box), grab hold of the Wire/Socket.

Then twist the Bulb Housing/Diffuser about 1/4 turn and pull the bulb and Socket out.

Easy Peasy.

(If it's NOT like the TL, then .... uhmmm ..... just ignore everything I just typed. )

I swapped it out about 2 years ago and I ended up putting back the OEM bulb back in it since it wasn't that bright with the LED. I believe the bulb is actually a very small wedge LED #74 http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html I think that bulb and the bulb underneath the cubbyhole under the stereo are the same bulb. My cubbyhole light matches the blue from the OEM blue bulb that is in the homelink. I think I had to dislodge the glove box and you twist the housing and just get a flat screwdriver to open the little housing that has the bulb inside. If I have time tomorrow I will double check it.

I did it a few months ago with a white #74 single LED from autolumination. Don't remember having a really hard time getting the housing out, other than having to contort my body and my hand in really awkward ways. There was a metal clip that needed some prying, and had to be bent back afterwards, though.

I debated whether or not to reinstall the frosted white lens, because I was worried that it would block too much light. But I did reinstall it, assuming that it would be needed to dissapate light around the glovebox sincethe bulb is set so far inside the housing. I was also worried that the original incandescent bulb basically throws light sideways, while the LED throws it forward into a dead end instead (the exit hole in the housing is along one side of the bulb). So I lined the inside of the housing with aluminum tape, hoping to bounce some of the light emitted from the tip back in. Whether or not that had any effect, in the end, the LED lights up my glovebox nicely:
