Gauging interest: Real CF Pillars for TSX
Would anyone be interesting in cf pillars for the TSX? I've seen it done on the M35 and it looks amazing. Wanted to know how many people would actually buy this if it were available. Est price would be about $200, which seems to be pretty standard. Tell me what you think and if you would be interested. Thanks.

I would be very interested depending on the method they are installed on the car. If they use a simple 3M adhesive, then Im not interested. However if they mount with the factory screws like the OEM part, fit and finish like the OEM part, and have the screw mounting on the inside of the panel reinforced against breakage then they justify $200.
I ordered a set a few years back for a civic show car I had. Paid $175. The tabs that the screws drilled into were plastic and broke off. The panel then bowed outward away from the car and didnt follow the curve of the car window like it should.
Really the curvature of the CF piece was nonexistent. It was basically flat and when installed onto the car the curvature it has to form to put more pressure on the screw mounting areas causing it to break off. Turns out it was just hot glued in the first place.
An OEM fit and finish is a must for me, just from experience.

Another worthy note: Someone was selling imitation CF pilars on Ebay with the 3M adhesive for $99.
If these are real carbon fiber, with the finish and quality shown in the pictures above and meet my previous qualifications I would pre-order my set now for $200.

That looks pretty pimp to me. For someone like myself that drives the car everyday, I would much rather put the $200 towards performance mods. (CAI, rear sway, hondata, etc.)
Great for shows though....those would gain mad points

Those seem to fit very well as an overlay. Therefor the adhesive is extremely important. I was actually convinced from looking at the pictures they were replacement pieces rather than overlays, so they definitely have the fit and finish that I admire. I would be curious to see the edges against the car. They dont appear to be stuck on in your photos, that would be what Im trying to avoid.
Im curious to see if you have any pictures of these panels uninstalled and if they lay flat or if they form fit to any curves? Im wondering because during the curing process of carbon fiber panels is a chemical reaction that creates heat. Working as a novice with carbon fiber personally Ive experienced some deflection, warping, and deformation of pieces during the curing process.
I think $200 is a justified price for REAL carbon fiber panels. Its a difficult material to work with, the resin clarity is very good on your demo pieces. Im still interested.
$200 is worth spending on a cosmetic mod to me. Unlike a performance mod, this wont create a warranty arguement with my dealer which is important since I bought the extended. I know they cant blame performance mods void warranty, but you have to admit you do get treated a little differently when they find out about them. Im always looking for something a little different to set me apart. Subtle changes, nothing dramatic like a wild body kit or custom paint. So Im in your target market group.

It is my understanding that there is some flexibility, generally pillars if at all, have a slight curvature, nothing extreme, and only crappy adhesives would not be able to adhere. The adhesive on these is quality.

One advantage I like to CF pilars is the elimination of finger prints showing on the stock pilars. I noticed when detailing my car that my fingers had Armor All or Lexol leather conditioner on them and they would smudge and smear all over the stock pilars which was pretty noticible on thier flat low gloss finish. The oily residue took several wipes to clear off.
I think with the CF pilars and the glossy finish they appear to have in the pictures, such fingerprints and smudges would hardly be noticible because of the glossy clear on the carbon fiber. Besides that most people would be appreciating the attention to detail of carbon fiber pieces on the pilars rather than noticing a fingerprint on it.
So cTLgo Im in if you want to produce a set.

Use all 3 Pedals at once
I'd get a set...I think it would contrast well with my ABP
Plus...Mr. Tow Truck Guy tried to tow my car once and messed up those pillars trying to get into my car

even if its real CF the clear coat on top of the overlays will eventually start to turn white, then you would have to re apply the clear coat again. I have done it once on my CF hood for my g35. you would think seibon CF hoods would be good quality but it happens to all CF eventually.

Burning Brakes
Too each his own but Um 200 bones too add weight to your car ?(i know its not much) but isnt the whole point of CF weight reduction? (yes i understand the cosmetic aspect)
Just seems too me that $200 could be better spent on something functional.
but thats just my 2 cents.

while they look nice, the fact that they are overlays are a deal breaker. anything that isn't permanently attached to a car down here ends up getting stolen.
and yes i realize that this is an old thread
