frustrating dealership experience

I've never had problem with them since I bought the car.
This happened when i went to my dealership on thursday to get a car inspection.
I have an escort passport 8500 w/ blue led, and i still had it attached to my windshield when the guy at dealership took my car.
after about 30m, i got my car back and the radar was gone together with the windshield suction pad mount.
So i thought the technician had taken it off and forgot to put it back on. I went back inside and talked to my service advisor.
He went back talked to the technician for 15m, and said that they have never seen a radar attached to my windshield since the second i gave the car.
I got mad and talked to the service manager.
The manager was even worse. He kept talking that they've never experienced any customer having their valuables stolen coz they are professional and bla bla bla..
He was saying (implicitly) that i was making stuff up regarding this radar. After about 15m explaining that i wasnt making stuff up, i even showed him the mark on my windshield from the suction pads.
After he kept saying that it wasnt their fault, he wanted to reimburse me just for me to shut up, but i need to find the original receipt.

All i need its an apology which i didnt get...
We have MDX, RL, and my TSX, all of them from that dealership. and after this problem, were not coming back.

good.
don't go back.
(not good stuff was stolen from you, but good that you're not going back)

this is a semi-common problem by the way.
I hear about it all the time.
most people think it is the car-wash guys that do most of the stealing.

I leave absolutely nothing in my car when I drop it off.
I even remove my spark plug cover, my oil cap, IM cover, and everything
that can be easily removed from the car.
you have no way to get your stuff back or "prove" anything.
and the guys there, whomever they are, know that.

blind trust now a days should not be used.

I had a similar problem with a certain Honda dealership; although not as serious as losing a radar detector but nonetheless...

I took my Civic in for a factory recall on the floormats and came out with two different license plate frames. They were the custom metal frames that read, "CIVIC," like the ones you can buy at the dealership. Well, i asked the service manager to find my frames and to remove the dealership ones. After 30 mins. they told me that they couldn't find it.

...you know what was the kicker? after the whole ordeal, they asked me to fill out a quality control feedback survey that was going to be sent to my home. Yeah, I did fill it out: in the bathroom.

You should name the scum dealers so everyone else can avoid them as well.

I said it before and I will say it again. As long as their cars sell themselves, the dealers will be total jerks. It refers to Hondas, Toyotas, BMW's. They all suck !

Sorry to hear about the theft, at least they are willing to cover the lost. I always carry my valet key and put everything in the trunk and glovebox and lock them up. I don't trust any of these guys servicing or moving my car. My younger sister use to not care about locking anything up in the car but that changed after a valet person stole her pair of $150 sunglasses while she used the valet service.

I'd take your business elsewhere and let them know why. I'd recommend a letter to the owner if you're up for it - or see them in person. That's not only service business they are loosing, you're clearly a repeat buyer. Trick is to find someone who cares, and I'm guessing the owner or general manager would be the right one.

I sold Acuras in 1990 for a brief time. It was not uncommon to have things like that happen. There's lots of people with access, and most of them were in on it so they'd cover for each other. I remember we'd take cars in on trade and the shop guys would strip the stereos and speakers - any after market item actually - during the "inspection".

haha, last time i got an oil change, I THOUGH there were less quarters in my 'not and ashtray' hole afterward. But I didn't remember good enough to actually be sure! I'll set a trap next time.

Pocketing quarters is lame. It reminds me of those people on Video Justice who steal quarters out of the casino machines..... only they get caught.

The dealership should not reimburse you the cost you paid for the lost property ... but the replacement cost.

Or. If you have renter's insurance, you can file a claim and tell the adjuster where you thought the item was stolen. Let them go after the dealership. File a complaint with the BBB, and the local DA's office.

Bottom line, live and learn. Don't leave valuables in the car in plain view. Leave them at home, or as mentioned, lock them up. They provide a valet key for a reason.
