We don't need front plates, which I absolutely love. Alberta may be the only province/ state in NA where this is the case.

I had taken off my front plate in BC and got a $75 fine on my Integra GSR. Supposedly you can trim the licence plate to only show the ID though; which I did after without any problems.

I prefer European plates that are narrow in width, the plates we have in NA are fugly!

No need for front plates in PA either. My condolences for those who live in states/provinces who are less fortunate. The car looks beautiful without the front plate covers.

I had to leave the damn front plate on because it's the law...though I may just paint it red to match my TSX!

The front looks MUCH better without the plate. Anyone know if not having a front plate in California will result in a fine or just a court apprearance to prove you put it on?

Like 35Kcdn, I live in Alberta where you aren't even issued a front plate. The exception is vanity plates, you get two of those. I have an old car with custom plates and it looks better with both plates on. The bumper is designed to have a plate mounted, it would look funny without. The TSX of course is exactly the opposite, I think it looks much better with nothing marring the clean lines up front. However, if a front plate were the law here I don't think I'd remove it. I'm not that hung up on the appearance and in general I'd prefer not to do anything to draw attention to myself.

Hmmm. Actually, I have to call bullsh*t on myself. I tinted my side windows with a technically too-dark tint partly because I liked the look (and partly to keep the interior cooler). I'm probably more vain than I like to think.

...Is that allowed? Can you make a statement and rebuttal in the same post? Isn't there some kind of PW guideline that says they should be separate posts?...

It's only allowed if you put EDIT: in front of it. Then it looks like you posted then changed your mind and came back to change it.

EDIT: oh and front plates suck

EDITx2:see, like that

Front plates are required in California.

In Florida, they don't use front plates.

The good thing about Japanese cars is that unlike some European makes, you don't see those phony European plates on them. By "phony" I mean that the car was never registered in Europe and therefore never legitimately carried European plates.

Some fools attach them only to the front, but there's no sign of the same bogus in the rear, a sure sign of phony-ness.

Now there's a twist! Whereas some people remove legitimate plates, others install totally bogus ones!

it's really sad how California requires front plates. here's an interesting observation tho: despite this "law" i have NEVER seen a corvette, porsche, or any slick sportscar with a front license plate here tho.

It's also interesting tat u look in car magazines and EVERY car ad shows the vehicle without a front license plate. Even car manufacturers seem to condone the no front plate issue. And besides, wuts the point of having a front licnese plate...it only ruins the car's appearance and adds to drag.

I've wanted to take my front plates off my car, but my dad forbids it. Yet ironically, wen he got his car the dealers didnt have any holes drilled in the front bumper and cuz of my tat, my dad got lazy and never put the front license plate on.

So i guess we can all agree the front license plate sucks. But here's my idea: y cant they make front "license plate" bumper stickers. The stickers would be clear and only show the numbers in a contrasting color (eg Black, silver...).

I heard the main gripe about having no front plate is the possibility of you using it on a second car, so if you have the front plate in the trunk then there may be less issues when you get pulled over. I really do think it's worth taking off however - you can always go for a line like "Hey, that [insert sports car that is parked next to where you got pulled over] has no plates - why don't you write them a ticket? Racial profiling! Forget about making detective "officer", I'm gonna have IA on your ass quicker than you can say desk job!"

The areas in California with the most vigorous inforcement of the front plate law are those that are using cameras to catch red light runners: no plate = no ticket. San Diego, San Francisco, and other municipalities rely on the automated systems for a healthy chunk of revenue.

What I heard about those cameras, and this is probably a rumor, is that they also need to see your face to identify the driver - so if you're wearing a baseball cap + shades no ticket either. I certainly wouldn't want to test this theory out, however.

yeah that's true about the redlight cameras. The newer ones however also get a shot of you from the rear. The thing about the face is definitely true. It was ruled unconsitutional to give the registered ownwer of the vehicle a ticket if it oculdn't be proved they were driving. Best way to do that would be to pull the sun visor down so your face is obscured by the high mount cameras

I haven't received my plates yet but I will be putting it on. I got a ticket from a bike cop in L.A. (just a fix-it ticket) for not having one years ago on my Civic, so ever since then I've put it on all my cars. Even though it it looks hideous it also helps keep bumper damage to a minimum when street parking (people here basically use your bumper to determine how far to back in when parallel parking) since it's usually the first thing that gets hit.

I just got my plates. Since I lived in California, I have to put them onto the front. I had the front license plate holder off for two months, it looked so nice... I went to Arizona a few weeks back, and 95% of the cars there do not have front plates. Does anybody know if front plates in Arizona is optional?

My front plate was never on the car, not even when I test drove the car before the purchase. I guess the people at my dealership don't like front plates either.
