Fog Light LENS?

Hey,

After searching, nobody has really answered the question of if just a replacement LENS can be found for the OEM fogs. Everybody starts talking about film, and aftermarket fogs, but nobody answers the question, if this can be done. I just had a rock nail my brand new installed fogs on my 05 TSX and I need to replace 1. I'm trying to avoid the 100 dollars of buying the whole thing. Also, many mentioned things such as putting plastic sheets in front of them or lamin-x (which i bought and sucked ass cause it wasn't cut to fit the fog lights at all) ...but how do you install a screen or plastic barrier on an 04-05. They have much wider spacing for the fog install, not like the nice cut hole on the 06 and up?

Thanks

Can't tell you for sure since I have a '05, but if they're similar at all... you're SOL. You're going to have to buy the entire assembly. My passenger side one just cracked --- AGAIN. This will be the 3rd replacement I buy

You would've thought that Acura would've either made the part more durable

Either durable or clear. If they made it thicker, it would be foggy (not as visible). If they used plastic, the heat from the foglights might melt it.

I guess they went for visibility, and they didn't know that American roads are full of garbage and rocks

Well, I guess if you don't want to spend the 280 dollars for factory lamps, you can get some clear ones off ebay for 25 bucks...

I almost did that...

i owned a 03 hyundai elantra gt that had better foglights than on my tsx- when i gave it to one of my kids it had 62,000 miles on it. never had any any problems with the foglights. they put another 20,000+ miles on it until it was totaled. my 06 tsx has had both the cracked foglights replaced, thankfully for free by the dealer. I now have rockblocker on them. In fact the paint on the hyundai held up better- both cars were red. I do love my tsx.

I believe there was a couple of attempts. Someone made a mesh grille for their foglights, and someone used a plastic (plexiglass or something?) on top of their foglight lens.

Personally, my foglights seem to be refusing to crack, so I've been lazy to find some protection for them =P

That's what everyone's talking about man... you have to buy the whole assembly for ~$100 (w/ shipping), even if you only need a replacement lens.

Here is the thread:

I've got some lexan (which was less than $3 from Home Depot) over mine now.

Unfortunately neither the Lexan nor the wire-mesh fix will work on an 04/05...they dont have the light built in through the bumper and have the whole light and plastic assembly exposed....any ideas how to put any kind of fix like that on a model prior to 06?

I would just suggest removing and selling them. They seem pretty much usless with the HIDs -- especially since you cannot turn on the fogs without the headlights.

Pity they can't be rewired so they could. Another thread, someone mentioned getting oohs and ahhs when he unlocked his car and the lights came on. Though that can be a needless use of the HIDs (I noticed an ON-OFF-ON sequence when I unlocked twice, which allegedly shortens their lifespan), being able to unlock and have just the foglights come on would be . Easier to find in a crowded parking lot, too.

In fact, wouldn't they make reasonable "DRLs?"

- Any approximate dimensions/shape in cutting the Lexan?
- If I want the cracked light replaced, I'm assuming I would need to remove the whole bumper, is that right?

Thanks for all your help.
No problems yet, but I rarely use my fogs (because they're pretty much pointless with the HIDs).

I first slid a piece a cardboard between the light and the bumper then traced the shape/size of the fog light. I then cut the cardboard into a polygon leaving extra space -- like1/4" or more -- around my trace; then I used that as my template for the lexan.

Why bother replacing the cracked lens? I think you have to buy a entire new foglight (or two). One of mine was cracked but still structurely sound so I just covered it with the Lexan -- and I doubt anyone ever even notices that I have a cracked foglight.

i don't understand why anyone would think some film over the lens would have the strength to prevent a stone from cracking it.

that has to be some pretty strong film to prevent that from happening.

Does anyone know if you can buy the ebay foglights and just replace the lenses with the factory assembly?

This way you're not fumbling with a wiring harness that doesn't fit.

i purchased my film from laminX and it is actually pretty thick. It is almost a rubbery type of texture. I am pretty confident that a stone will not be cracking my fog lights with the film on. I am thinking about doing the same with my headlights after I recondition them.

I think the lexan will work. This is the stuff they use for our head lights. I don't think we use this for the fog lights. Read up on the lexan. It is good stuff.

Great after reading this thread, I go out to check mines and what do you know. My drivers side fog light lens is broken/cracked on my 06'. Should I take it to the dealership?

if you buy the right light covering plastic stuff you're okay.

some of the tinted laminx is just that, tint.

I also have the very thick, rubbery like covers for my fogs.
I got them from rockblocker.
I have the same super thick film for my headlights.
Stuff feels bullet-proof, but time will tell.

Yes, you can make your fogs come on independently, quite easily.
Just do a search on this or the other site for a DIY.
Or take it into a shop and have them wire them independently for you.

Like I did:

I truly regret getting the optional fog lights on my 04!!!

Does anyone know how much it would cost to leave the wiring and just replace the fogs with the original cover?

I'm sick and tired of seeing my cracked lenses every-fucking-day.

just buy the plastic covers.
and switch them out.

it would cost the amount of the covers.
you can leave the wiring as is.

it would be cheap and simple I would think.

in fact, I bet there's more than a couple people on here
that have those exact covers just sitting in their garage.
I bet you could find a person to just give them to you for
the cost of shipping. If I had an older TSX, I would, but mine
came with the fogs from factory.

so, you can do it for less than $10 is my guess. and about an hour of work.

That procedure does work. A couple members have already done this.
