Five years later

on this day five years ago I became the owner of my tsx. Rearended a few months ago causing $1,500+worth of damage. Still a great 100% stock car with almost 130,000 miles.

I just clicked past 150k miles in my 04; in service date of 8/01/2003. Still running strong. I also had a $2000 incident last winter during "Snowmaggedon" here in the East where a tree fell on my car, shattering the backlight and prompting a rear decklid replacement.

Congrats on 130,000 miles, you are half way there!!

Sometimes I want a new(er) car; but, I can't trade the looks, gas mileage, reliability, performance, no car payment and tech just for a car payment. I had a 2012 TL base loaner for a few days and it was not worth the higher car payment compared to my TSX.

I only have 80,000 miles on my 06 and I'm expecting around another 100,000 miles. I’m going to pass my TSX to my son when he is ready to drive in H.S. in about 3 years.

I agree: no car payment-I think it is a good thing the 2012 tsx se does not have nav. The nav. on my 06 has come in handy over the years. Great car to pass on to your son. I was a mean parent-no cars for my kids while they were in h.s. Luckily we lived in an area that was either walking distance or on the bus route.

Happy fifth anniversary, (or fifth birthday to your car, depending on how you term it)!

I somehow missed that you were rear-ended a few months back. Sorry to hear about that, but glad you and your car are okay.

Our daughter is almost 12 and we don't know if we'll be making her earn money toward her own car, or how we'll handle it yet in 4 years. (I agree that it's good to foster self-reliance, etc.) And the other thing is, to 'inherit' or even share the use of our cars she would have to learn to drive a stick, as my wife and I both love to drive manuals. (Poor kid! ha ha.)

CONGRATS! All these high mileage TSX-es are great! And i also missed the post about you being rearended. 130K miles is nothing for a honda! I've heard plenty of stories where people get 300K miles easy! I've head 400-500K miles on older ones from the 90s. Hope you have many more faithful years with your TSX!

one good thing about being rearended is the other driver was arrested for outstanding warrants. Luckily they did have car insurance that covered the repairs and a rental car. I did rename the car-former name Queen Mother-now called Queen Slut as she took it up the a$$ from a Chrysler.

Congratulations on five year anniversary.

Curious, are you still on the original brakes? I do not notice that anymore on your profile.

that's not being mean. its parenting. make the kids earn it! driving a car is NOT a necessity in a HS kid's life (neither is a smartphone, but dont' even get me started on that one). what do they say...driving is a privilege? it's the only way kid's ever learn to earn things and realize what life is all about.

received that label from them when their friend's parents bought them cars. I would say OH WELL-You are not getting one from me-I did co-sign their first car loan but that was it. They paid it on time and built up their credit. They did thank me later.

additional: I follow the maintenance minder and average about 2 1/2 months between oil/filter changes. I also get the tires rotated balanced. The engine air filter and cabin pollen filters have been changed 5 times so far. At 111,413 miles (9/22/10) the spark plugs were changed and the coolant system was drained and filled. I do keep up on the maintenance and have all the paperwork to prove it.
