First time driving a TSX
I am currently a 2nd gen tl type s owner. Recently some things went wrong with it and its in the dealer getting repaired. They gave me a 2008 TSX until mine is repaired. First off im gonna say i miss the power of tl-s. When i floor the gas on the tsx it doesnt even feel like it drops gears. Kind of slow. But then again it could be me because i havent driven a 4 cylinder in ages. Now the good part. The car handles and steers like a proper sports car. I love how precise the steering is, and how tight the turning radius is. The seats are pretty comfy and i really appreciated the XM radio. 30MPG didnt hurt either. Looks compact and tidy yet rather roomy inside. I really like these cars. My tl-s is almost paid off. Im thinking about adding a tsx to my collection now.

so whats your point? We all know that 4 cyl car is slower than 6 cylinder (excluding BMW 325i and Lexus IS250). I dont mean to be aggressive but I am growing tired of being told that TL's have more power because they are boring cars compared to TSX's

What is your problem? The OP simply states his observation when driving a loaner TSX. I don't see anything wrong with his assessment. OTOH, you continue to make generalized comments with nothing to back them up. Additionally, you seem to believe your opinions as facts. I'm really growing tired of your posting.

Funny. Last year I dropped my TSX off at the dealer for a day's warranty repair work, and got a 2008 TL for a loaner. I felt similar things there: it was a bit slow (until i really put the spurs to 'er), a bit heavy and ploddy. But once I decided to kick it into using all 6 of those V's, it was fun to drive. But when I got into my TSX at the end of the day, my TSX felt nimble, light, eager to accelerate ... all things that I didn't initially get from the TL in a few hours' driving.

The problem is stated. Its that people ALWAYS diss on TSX's performance. I made the comment according to my experience and experience of others.

I am in no way dissing the TSX's performance. Maybe if you read my original post you would see that I liked the car a lot. I said how nice it steers and handles. I even went on to say that i really want one. All I am doing is simply giving my opinion on a particular car. And yes, no offense, but is slower than a TL-S, quiet a bit actually. But thats expected its a 4 vs. 6. If it was as fast then the TL would be a complete failure. And what do you care if someone says your car is slower than his, Im sure at the end of the day you're very pleased with your car and love every second of it. My brother drives a 2002 BMW 330i with a few mods, and frankly it smashes my car in performance, and he reminds me all the time, but I dont take it to heart and still enjoy driving my tl.

Dude, I am not mad at you in any way and I guess I was a bit too harsh expressing my thoughts, but there are many others who keep dissing on these cars simply because they have 4 cylinders. ok, lets just forget it

The engine is honestly the only problem I have with the car though, that and FWD. Everything else is spectacular in my opinion.

yes, now that you mention it, the fine steering is one of the first things i noticed when i started driving mine.
I also agree that the tsx isn't that powerful. I think its mostly quick and fun, but there are other cars that will smoke us. I'm fine with that. There are other things besides 'fast' that impress me. I especially like the looks, the interior luxury, the drive quality, and the steering.
Also, I came from a little toyota corolla. Of course I'm going to love the Acura.
Speaking in type-s, they are fast as hell. My dad has an RSX type-S and i think it screams pretty good

I thought the RSX-S was the same engine as the RSX ... they tuned it up on 2005, if I recall, but the Type-S added leather seats, something else, both standard, and maybe a different suspension.
And IIRC it's the same engine that's in the TSX.
I could be wrong on both counts, but I was shopping for an RSX last year when I settled upon a TSX for a couple thou$and more.

You have a lot to learn about life, chief. Good luck, and I agree with Jtso, your posts are getting pretty annoying with your "know-it-all" attitude. It's not going to get your anywhere in life... give it a rest
OP, thanks for the compliment on the car. Sure is a fun little car, I love my '04.

The RSX has the Same Horsepower as the TSX (200hp) but it's a different engine. The RSX uses the Same 2.0l engine as the Civic Si, except tuned to produce 200hp as opposed to 160hp.
My 2 cents.
I just bought (yesterday) a 2004 TSX and traded in my 1999 TL-P. Yes the car has less punch (200hp vs 225hp and 166lbf of torque vs 212lbf of torque), but it's much smoother(engine and tranny) and the interior is nicer. And while my TL wasn't a type-S, it was impressively quick for such a large car. But my speeding days are over (actually they were marked when I sold my 300hp Turbo B16 powered Civic EX and picked up the TL), so a reliable comfortable ride that's good on gas and still very good looking is more important to me then performance.
edit: the civic was actually Dyno'd at 293hp, but who cares if I round up?

Hi, David. Someone that is used to a V-6 engine is not likely to push the TSX into the power band of around 3500 RPM's, and up, before allowing the transmission to shift. The TSX is not quick off the line, but it is fast -- and it is fairly quick at accelerating once at crusing speed -- providing you downshift and put the RPM's in the 3500 to 7000 range. And, you can certainly hear, and feel, the difference when VTEC kicks in. I drive 99.9 percent of the time in Sport Shift, and that is the only way to get decent performance from the automatic.
I love the handling of the TSX in the mountains and there are probably no other sedans in it's price range that are quicker around the curves -- once the OEM tires are replaced with something that has better grip.

You are 100% correct, infact, I forgot the RSX was upped to 210hp at the end of it's life. Those must've been a hoot to drive.

I was never really impressed with the TL-S in the power department. I've driven faster cars so nothing to brag about. The Altima 3.5 SE felt faster than all the previous TL's.. The last model Type-S is pretty quick though. But an 03 Type-s isnt really that fast. I beat one in my Matrix XRS!..with mods though. It was back in 04. The XRS was no beast but fast enough to stay ahead of a stock TL Type-S. The 6speed TSX's have alil more pep than an auto..I hated getting an auto loaner from the dealer.. car felt stupid slow! Then i got my baby back and had to open her up on my drive back home!..haha
