First Oil Change

I know that Acura recommends that you wait at least 5,000 miles before changing the oil for the first time because of the "special" break-in oil, which has extra additives in it compared to regular oils, mainly moly. I'm wondering has anyone here changed their oil for the first time at 3,000 miles? I'm wondering whether or not 3,000 miles would be sufficient time for the break-in oils to do their job. I always thought that engines fully break-in after 3,000-5,000 miles; they do not mature until 10,000. Thanks

I went in for my oil change at 7000km approx 4375 Miles.
I Checked the oil just before I left for the dealer and
the oil level was half under the lowest hole on the dipstick!!

Anyone that has decided to do it themselves - what are your thoughts on this?

Make sure the engine is off for a few minutes before checking your oil. If you have already done that and it's still low, then change it yourself next time and it won't ever happen again.

In Honda Australia's service manual, it says that the first oil change is done at 1000km. There is no special oil in the engine when it leaves the factory. The only thing that is special is the fact that it is pure mineral oil, not a blend or a synthetic. Mineral oil helps the engine wear in a bit better (but not really needed since the engine is pretty much run at the factory) but the actual breaking in of your car is more for the transmission and suspension.

I changed mine @ 6500~7000 miles.

And kept going on intervals of 5000 thereafter.

OIL CHANGE Materials

Ok.. First of all, i only use geninue Honda Oil Filter, new washer for the drain plug, and Castrol 5w30 or Honda 5w30 motor oil, and the drain plug nut size is 17mm.
You get what u paid for on the parts. the honda oil filter is triple layer in paper protection vs. after market such as FRAM, is less paper, and will void the warranty if something goes wrong and the most important of all is that there is a drain back valve inside the honda filter, so when u start your engine, oil is inside the filter instead of others it takes time to the filter from the pan, it can cause damaage while u start your car in the am or anytime.
i change my own oil and filter because i dont trust shops, u dont know what they use for your car or just say is done and did not do anything to it. i let it drain all the way to no oil coming down. i do other stuff while oil is drainning. shops will do in x amount of min. so they will tight nut when oil is still dripping... i hope u got what i say here.
i buy in bulk. i pay 10 percent over dealer invoice on oil filters. so it turns out to be 128 plus tax for a box of 30.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Honda filter may have been good quality in the past but it's not the case anymore. The anti-drain back valve is a joke. Next time let the car sit over night, then remove the filter. You may not find any oil left inside the filter! I used to buy Honda filter in bulk as well, as I have a few Honda cars. But I'm going to try Mobil and see if how it performs.

The current Honda oil filter is in fact, made by Fram. They had Fram printed on them for a short time, then changed the printing to Honeywell, which is a parent company (nice cover-up). I'd suggest you use the s2000 filter. It's really top quality and made by Toyo-Roki in Japan.

I changed mine at 3000 and every 3K after.

Has anyone done a Used Oil Analysis for their TSX? If so, would you please post it here? Thanks

Im looking at one right now (recently bought) and theirs nothing on it that says fram or honeywell.

A company called Filtech Inc. is printed on it, and I cant find any evidence that they are related to Honeywell in any way...

Don't know how "recently" you bought that filter or if it was old stock, but that filter has been superceded by the current Honeywell made filter. We haven't been able to get the Filtech made filters where I work (Honda dealer) for several months.
