The first Navi to non-Navi conversion writeup
So earlier last year, I completed the navi conversion. Finally, I decided it was time to complete the navi to non-navi conversion..
Here's what we start with:
Removing the RG + and GND wires from the Audio Connector A. BUS +, -, and SH are also removed from Audio Connector B.
Removing the self-built wire harness from the radio area
....and then from the glove box and passenger's footwell area
Remove the CAN H, CAN L, and VSS wires are removed from this connector going into the ECU
Reconnect the connector back to the ECU. Note that this wire is very short and a bit hard to work with.
The 'New' unit that's going in place of the 8" LCD.
Done! Some basic testing before everything is reassembled.
Installation is in reverse order of removal Well, plus some routing and a couple of wires going into the trunk (sorry no pics since it was dark).
Total time taken to remove 3 full days of installation work and 2 months of research:
1 lunch hour for everything in the front + 1 hour in the dark after work to remove everything from the trunk.

After last year's brief s2000 ownership experience, this year I'm craving for a G35 coupe for some reason, so I might be selling the car finally.. That is, if I find one that I really like.. Namely, Ivory Pearl with black interior + premium/sports/navi package..

Okay let me get this straight..
You plan to buy a G35, so you plan to sell your car -that makes sense.
But to get your TSX ready to sell you degrade it by removing the Nav thus lowering its value -doesn't make sense..
Am I missing something here???

Not to mention that when someone runs your VIN through carfax, it will show that you're supposed to have a navi. If the person interested in your car sees something fishy like this, they will pass. You also wouldn't be able to trade it in to the dealer too because they'll check for the same thing unless you put the navi back in.

^No, his navi is really up for sale on the black market.
Also, he said he completed the non-navi to navi conversion last year. I will assume that this is the same TSX he did it on and so it originally doesn't have a navi to begin with. In that case, it makes sense to remove the navi before trying to sell the TSX because the vin# would say that it's a "non-navi". If someone runs a carfax and finds out that it's not supposed to have a navi and sees one, then the TSX will look questionable to them.
At least I think that's the case...

I think you have the answer
Think about it, if you were the buyer, would you trust some random guy to have installed this relatively complicated system in the car? As much confidence I have in my install, in the buyer's point of view there's no way to tell if it was done properly.
As for the thread itself, there's some sense of humor among AZ folks.... or at least there used to be.

I think the fact that it works is sufficient, as with any other add on accessory that doesn't detract from the value of a car.

Interesting writeup! If I didn't have aftermarket navi I'd consider buying your setup. It doesn't look like the install is too difficult since you've already made the harnesses.
Starting this thread was actually a good way for you to advertise that your navigation kit is for sale in the black market section. Not everyone visits that section, so a thread like this helps by exposing it to more people.

I'm not really sure why some of you think it's such a bad idea. It's all good, but to me, having navi doesn't add a whole lot to the resale value. In any case, if I wanted to, it'll probably take me no more than a couple of hours to put this back in, now that I've installed and then uninstalled once.
I didn't do the conversion because I really wanted to have the OEM navi in the first place anyway.. (personally I think the iGuidance running on my PPC is much better) I actually enjoyed the process, and of course the removal part was twice as much fun..
I was also hoping that later on, angrycamel and the rest of the folks working on the GA-Net hack project will provide something that I can use on the pc in place of the stock DVD unit, that was one of the big motive of installing the stock 8" screen. The non-navi headunit just doesn't allow for an optimum mounting location for a big screen without a significant amount of modification to the center dash.
