First Generation TSX design outdated

Most other Acuras were designed with a futuristic touch.

Even the 2G TL looks modern.

But for some reason the 1st generation TL design looks old and outdated on the road today.

1st gen TL or TSX? Your post isn't exactly clear.

I may be a bit biased but the 1st gen TL had a lot going for it. I even liked its appearance.

I was referring to TSX because it was manfactured in the 2000's.

1Gen TL is looks old as crap.

Well, opinions are like assholes; everyone has one, and you're certainly entitled to yours. I think you may find it's a minority one here though (duh! this is the first gen. TSX forum after all...).

the fact is that most auto designs get old and tiresome.
OP, what car do you have?

P.S. the 2nd gen TL does not look modern.

I saw a pristine looking white 1st gen with the skirts etc. on it and I thought to myself that is still a nice looking car. Maybe it is because I had two of them. In the eye of the beholder I guess but what do I know I had a ZDX and now an ILX.

Well, As Simba said, you posted your opinion on the wrong forum. And with my stated bias, I'll say that I think the 2G TL looks dated from the rear and side. (Big, Pontiac-like plastic panels & side cladding.)

Meanwhile, the TSX's design and design elements have been copied...and still are, yet today.

From Car & Driver: "The freshest sheetmetal adorns the Kia Forte, launched as a rousing replacement for the forgettable Spectra. The compact Forte—there’s also a coupe called the Koup and a five-door hatchback that will be added later this year—from Hyundai’s subsidiary is sharpened, beveled, and scalloped into a decent facsimile of the former Acura TSX. It’s not an unwelcome association considering how we adored that old Acura."

2006 Acura TSX:

2013 Kia Sorrento:

i still love the looks of my tsx, yes it doesnt look as modern as it used to but i still get people commenting about it 145K miles later. but i respect your opinion OP

i just wish acura could come out with something that is the same size as 1G TSX but with more power, sportiness and maybe even SH-AWD. i got an ILX for a loaner a few weeks ago and that felt more like the size of car i'd rather have but just want it to have but it is def lacking more power and sportiness from the factory.

I love my 1G TSX, but it has been compared TOO MANY times to a 4th gen camry's rear:

and compared to the 6th gen accord/ 8th gen civic front end more than a few times:

I'm still glad I bought a TSX for it's handling, MPG and quality interior, however, I'm wondering if the 3rd gen TL that also came out in 2004 looks a bit more modern with its unique side profile and C-pillar, as well as its thinner, longer headlights. The 3G TL design definitely uses the extra width to its advantage.

Edit: I just remembers the Euro Accord (TSX) was released for the 2002 model year outside the US, while the 3G TL was released in '04. Hmm. lol

The only thing I see dated about the 3G TL is the rear licence plate region that's gray and backup lights that are not in the tail lamp housings:

and those chunky rear sidemarker lights that can be looked at as an afterthought:

But of course, both of those can be fixed with a little color matching. I'm glad the 1G TSX has neither of these 2 design elements. REALLY wish we had LED tail lights though

Yeah, I agree. I think we are getting trolled.

2004-2008 TSX has a very sharp and clean design. Which is something I can't say about other cars out these days, which they seem to have gained weight and have gotten "bloated".

1st Gen TSX is truely a gem, and I'm glad I snagged one before they stopped production in 2009.

Case and Point:

Sorry if I'm biased but - I love my 1st gen TSX. I think it has a timeless design. Yes, timeless. The 2G TSX, not so much but I truly believe my 08 TSX is the perfect car.

If anything, I think the 2G TSX taillights look more like a 4th gen Camry...

Regarding the 3G TL, if Acura had just added some Chrome styling to the windows (like the TSX has) it'd look so much better. That's the only thing that's missing. In my opinion, cars without chrome along the windows look very outdated. It's just something about that chrome touch that makes cars look so much sharper.

Xenonhid - where did you get the lip from? All that's missing from my TSX (2008, NBP) is that lip.

I came back to post this and Jim beat me to it: I totally agree about the lack of chrome on the windows of the 3G TL...it looks dated and cheap in comparison.

I also agree regarding the tail lights of the 2G TSX looking more like a Camry.

Honda's and Acura's mature the best of any other car company. Why? They dont go to far overboard when designing cars and the next generation isn't a drastic change. I'd drive a 93 Accord SE coupe if it were sold new today. I see them all the time still and the still look good against 2012 model cars out there. Toyotas are the same thing. Concervatively styled cars age gracefully. Look at a 2012 Camry. You still see some signs of the 1998 model DNA in there.

I checked on Terpnation's recent posts...(and while there's no need for him to endure name-calling here), I think there is an issue with this poster stirring up trouble.

He also went into the ILX forum and disparaged that car...and followed up with several expletive-laced tirades.(not G-rated.) In context with that, perhaps he should be on a short leash.

Don't feed the troll...

If it is obvious that the user is looking for trouble, then walk away. Picking an e-fight benefits no one.

I would beg to differ.. I find it to be a timeless design.. compared to half the shit that was out back in 2003. I'm pretty sure it's only you, most of us love our 1st gen TSX's.
